Friday I stopped at BPS and picked up this sweet lil' Marlin 917V for $249, toss in $26 for two boxes of shells. It came with a bull barrel, 4 and 7 round mags, and scope mounts, the Hawke Endurance scope is on it's way from the factory and I'm mulling buying a bipod. Groundhogs beware! www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/17HMRMagnum/917V.aspx

Sweet! Check out on rimfirecentral for the bic pen spring trick. I replaced the trigger spring on my marlin with one from a bic pen and it dropped the pull down to about 3 pounds and was perfect after that.

Had a similiar one in .22 mag. Dad has it now. We still laugh about the "poof" the finch made when I shot it the day I was sighting it in for the first time. ;D
I'd like to have another one, but just haven't done it yet.
Enjoy!

BPS currently also has a camo stock Savage in the same caliber for the same price, and it appeared from the advert to include a scope. Might be time to take that property tax rebate for a stroll...

The new glass arrived yesterday from their distribution center in Fort Wayne, mine is the upper one. It's a Hawke Endurance model from their HK series. It's a 3-9x40 1/4 MOA with mil dot reticle, diopter adjuster, and multicoated glass. My first look through the eyepiece impressed me a lot more than I was expecting, normally a scope in the $100 range is satisfactory at best, but the image was clear, bright, and sharp enough to shave with. For those not familiar with the Hawke brand they're a european based optic company partnered with japanese optical manufacturers. They have half of the market in England and are the dominant brand throughout Europe. Now about that bipod... ;D
