I just heard from one of the PSE reps, that our new mayor of Anderson, IN would not give the IBO the go ahead to have the world shoot back in his city for this year. He also had the nerve to say that our fellow archers had trashed the courses? How would he know personally, and is he just acting on hearsay? He wasn't even mayor! So they have moved it to New York for 2008.

I heard that a LOT of people were unhappy with the host city (Anderson), and was disappointed in the area in general. Not enough good hotels, food, etc for the event and supporting the families, etc that go to the event. I heard this at the ATA show a few weeks, back. I'd say that Anderson lost it for a lot of reasons and the mayor is blaming the IBO? If I were a professional shooter and traveled the loop, Anderson wouldn't be high on my list. I don't know anything about the world IBO but are these held on privately owned courses like Fall Creek Conservation Club?

Duff - your right is was mainly held at the CC....this mayor or story is just trying to cover up the reality that the IBO wasn't happy with the event being held in Anderson! Other thoughts I had were not enough incentives given to have the event?

Duff, I don't recall any city property being used, but the city put in money to get the event here. They used the horse track, Grandview golf course, and the boy scout camp clear out by me for the event. The weather was blistering hot, 90 plus degree days, and I recall the city donating a lot of bottled water for the event. The vendors area in the parking lot of Hoosier Park was a joke! It took me all of ten minutes to see it all, much like the Deer and Turkey Expo incorporated in to the Boat Sport and Travel show. They had to shuttle shooters on school buses all over the place because the event was so spread out. I can see why guys didn't like it and were complaining.

Update! I guess the Anderson parks department runs the golf course because there is an article in the Herald stating that the city of Anderson is going to buy them new golf carts!

Yea I knew Grandview was a city park, not sure on Kilbuck and not a golfer so I don't know what others are even in the city other then the 2 country clubs.

C'mon...... I can think of a g-zillion better places to hold ANY event than Anderson. I wasn't even aware that they hosted the event.

Just from what I've read on other sites I'd say you hit it dead on.

Sorry, but you are all are wrong on this. The new mayor used this as a political move. The city parks were used for the pro ranges, the Boy Scout camp was used and the other was private owned. The IBO had no part in weather we kept the shoot here in 2008. It was Tony, Wayne’s, and mine to decide. We didn't feel the new administration would help since it was the same park employees that helped last year and pretty much undermined it to help they’re new boss. They’re more venders there then at any IBO worlds I have been to over there last 20 years. The IBO wanted it here for 2007 & 2008 so New York could get ready for 2009. The only ones that really didn't like were from the east coast.

That's too bad for you guys. Figured you all had a hand in it. Can't imagine why Anderson wouldn't support any conventions that would bring outside $$ into town, but politics are hard to follow sometimes!

I don't doubt what is listed below, but I do know that some of the professional shooters aren't and haven't been too happy with it being in Anderson. Not that anyone cares what they think at these types of things nor do the manufactueres, that spend the all of the MONEY! Not the HOT spot to bring family or to go to if your an out of towner. It sucks that it isn't going to be there any longer....that is just less and less money coming into Indiana.....politically motivated comment, I agree with 100%. I personally know of 2 happy people now, that are glad they aren't going to Anderson this year! Sorry, but you are all are wrong on this. The new mayor used this as a political move. Is Anderson still dying a horrible death? Haven't been there in a while. They have had a couple new employers come in like Nestle but I don't think nothing is going to replace all the automotive jobs they used to have. Was not looking forward to sending my kids to the schools there. I attended Anderson University and lived there for 10 years afer I greaduated. Some nice people there they just need jobs like they used to have.

My clan had to move, lack of opportunity. I'd move back if I could mainly cause family and the hunting spots I gave up when I moved. The only difference between the area I live now and Anderson or other dying industial towns in Indiana is here in Western Indiana we never had anything to lose. I'd stay here if possible but after my job is done there ain't crap over here either.
