Over the last decade or so, I have accumulated a TON of outdoor magazines that I have been saving for a purpose that even I don't understand. Its now to the point that storing them is becoming a serious issue. Do I dump them or should I continue to build my personal library? As of now, I leaning towards dumping anything before August of 2007...

I suffered the same illness. Moving 2 times in less then 4 years cured that illness fast.
Donate them, give them away, use as fire starters, insulate the garage walls. I really have a weakness for the Fur Fish and Game magazines as those are the true outdoorsman magazine IMO and the covers always had great artwork and the contents chocked full of good articles, bet even that collection was passed on to my younger brother n laws! I still have one of the first Field and Streams that I ever bought, it's cool to go back and read that after 2 decades have passed.
Tough choice, if you have to move them you might as well get rid of em. If they are not hogging up extra space in you house keep em. They will be fun to go back through one of these days. Guess it really depends on what they are worth to you though!

I believe Half Price Books and other such bookstores take magazines, if you want to get a nominal amount of cash for them. Otherwise, you can take them to get recycled, if you decide not to keep them.

I used to have a 13 year collection of Indiana Game & Fish.......every magazine they published in those 13 years.
I threw all of mine away.....then cancelled my subscription. I had a difference of opinion with several of their writers so I'm not gonna support that!

I don't have a link on where to send them but I am sure our troops in Irag and Afganistan would appreciate them. Maybe the American Legion or the VFW.

When mine build up sufficiently I send them to a GI overseas, they are always warmly received. Due to new regs you can't send them to a specific service member anymore, apparently some anti-war a-holes have been sending individual GIs some less than caring packages to protest their presence over there.

I have to agree with some of the others and say send them across seas to our troops.

I didn't know you COULD send them across seas to troops. Duh! Here I've been recycling all of them after I tear out what I want. That's an idea. How do you go about it?

I leave one or two in every office waiting room I find myself in. I also leave them in the Library. I have or know of a site where you can send them to the troops....... I'll try and locate it later tonight and post it... Phone is ringing right now!

I would ask is it about the information in the magazine collection it’s self or is it about the information that you don’t want to get rid of. If it is about the information I would start going threw them and if there are some good articles scan them in and save them digitally and then recycle or give away the hard copies which ever you like. If it is about the collection sit down and decide what you have room for in your house or where ever you want to keep them and then how your are going to store/display them. Then whittle down the collection to fit your plans. The hard part is not letting it get out of control again.

If you can not find where to send them to to be distributed to the military. You indubitably kept them because of an article or like Taps Tips in Field and Stream (I think that is the correct mag.). Any way go back thru them cut out said articles and tips then take them to a recyclers. Bet you will find that most of the articles aren't you were saving for aren't as important as you once thought. But they may still be good to pass down to a youngster or a beginning hunter.

Donating them is a very good idea. I found a co-worker whose grandson loves hunting, and knowing how magazines fueled my fire, I gave him a bunch.
I usually save the bowhunting ones with good technical articles by people like Norb Mullaney and chuck Adams.

I had a bunch that I was going to toss as well. I decided I would list them on Ebay just for the heck of it. I was surprised how much I got for them.

Several years back i joined a new magazine that had just started. It was all about rabbit hunting. Over two or three years I had two articles written about me and my dogs in it and keep all of the copys for over 15 years. Finally i decided one day to trash them. I didn't even save the articles on me. Wasn't long after that I found out several guys would have bought them as them became collector items. The magazine changed hands three or four times and I'm not sure it even exist today. h.h.

Robert EBay was going to be my other recommendation, but I wasn't sure how much you could get for them. Good to know you can actually get something for them there--although I no longer use EBay because I disagree with their firearms and ammunition selling (or lack thereof) policies.
