For women--gift cards are usually a nice idea! I'd enjoy places like Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, Target, Walmart, Meijer, Bath and Body Works, Kohl's, Panera, The Cheesecake Factory, and places that give nice haircuts/manicures/pedicures/massages to name a few. If you get a gift card to a restaurant, you may want to get it for a restaurant that does take-out and then put a coupon on the gift card that says that you'll pick up the take-out of her choice with the card--nice for when she comes home from a long day at work or has taken care of kids all day (or a combo of both) and just needs to relax and be taken care of. And if she likes lotions or anything like that (and you are comfortable enough with your manliness to venture into a female-type shop ), get her a bottle of Vanilla Bean Noel anything from the Bath and Body Works--it smells great (like cake) and isn't too strong. If she likes cooking, you could get her a set of nice kitchen utensils (I usually have luck with Target) if she wouldn't be offended due to it being too "domestic." I used to work as a cake decorator and liked having my own equipment, so gifts like this never bothered me, although they might bother other women. CDs and DVDs can usually be good stocking stuffers too--especially those that he or she enjoys, has not thought about in a while, and probably would not buy for himself or herself. Or you could get a card game or other small game that you could enjoy with the other person on Christmas. I enjoy Fluxx (http://www.wunderland.com/LooneyLabs/Fluxx/), Mille Bornes, Spinner (http://www.areyougame.com/interact/item.asp?itemno=GSSPINT) and Guillotine (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/116) to name a few. It's nice to go above and beyond the standard candy and ornaments and be a little unconventional but thoughtful with stocking stuffers (I sounded like Martha Stewart just then... ). Anyway--great thread! Hopefully people contribute and list ideas.

for my kids it is candy or sweets. most store have those box candy set going on sale for 50% off around this time. I don't let my kids eat a lot of sweets so it a treat for them.

Oh yeah...another suggestion for the women: slipper socks!!! You can never have too many pairs--they feel like a "hug" for your feet and are so comfortable. Nordstrom sells nice ones, but you can find them pretty much anywhere (even Target and Walmart).

Candy, lottery scratch offs, carton of smokes, cd's, gift cards, gloves, hats and socks these are some things I've gotten over the years. For the kids SOME of those would work pus maybe hand held video games. I gave the ex a quart od oil and some other stuff from the gas station one year!

Razors and shaving mug soap for me every year, which I enjoy not having to buy. Grandma always put scratch offs in my stocking, which were fun although I never won.

Every year we put small plastic sacks of Marioâ„¢ brand green olives from Wal-Mart in our grandkid's stockings, the kids adore them and they cost less than a buck. Go figure... ;D

bullets for your favorite firearm. smokes, chewing tobacco lottery tickets movie tickets razors DVD or CD's socks pocket knife zippo lighter green backs (cash) a map to a hidden present gourmet (sp) coffee packets or hot chocolate framed picture of you and loved one a CD or DVD with a collection of pictures from over the years USB thumb drives for transferring files from one PC to another. An extra 1GB memory card for a digital camera, cell phone, scouting camera or GPS device. Heavy wool socks for those cold days in the woods a Itunes gift card so you can download music from the web a book on tanning hides
One of the neatest cheap gifts I have gotten is a Stanley thermous from Walmart. $18 gift and it is something that I don't think I could go without. Of course it would take up all of the stocking.
