Actually it was - Grandma got run over by 2 deer
SIMCOE, Ont. -- The parking lot of a small rural church sounds like a safe place to be.
A 77-year-old Simcoe woman learned otherwise last Sunday in the parking lot of Mt. Zion United Church in Renton, Ont.
Rhea Wilcox was waiting for her ride around 10:30 a.m. when two deer came out of nowhere and ran over the unsuspecting woman.
"Two young deer came running parallel to the road," Rev. John Maich said.
"They leapt over what is left of the foundation of a stable. They came down between two parked cars and proceeded into the parking lot.
"She was standing with her back to them. They tried to jump over her but didn't make it. They knocked her down. One of the deer bounced off the church."
'ALL I SAW WAS A REAR END'
Wilcox needed six stitches to close a gash on her forehead. She also suffered a nasty scrape on her nose, two black eyes, a bruised shoulder and a scraped knee.
Her Sunday clothes were bloodied while a pair of bifocals were ruined. Beyond that, Wilcox is mobile and in good spirits.
"All I saw was a rear end, a white flash and the feet of deer going by," she said. "We figured someone had to be chasing them. It was the last day of hunting."
Barry Jones of Renton was exiting the church when he saw the deer scoot through the parking lot before taking off into the Renton golf course. He then noticed Wilcox on the ground with several people tending to her.
"She was bleeding pretty badly," Jones said.
"That scared a few people, but we didn't think she was in any danger. We checked for broken bones. It was quite flukey.”
