Congresswomen from Indiana Julia Carson lost one battle, the one she was waging with lung cancer. Julia Carson passed on to the Lord on Saturday December 15, 2007.
Julia was a very popular congesswoman, I don't think anyone could have ever unseated her, many have tried over the years and millions of dollars have been spent in that effort but no one ever succeeded.
I think BSUTravis has told a few stories about her in the past, as he has had that assignment on election days.
She was never my favorite congress person, but you got to give her credit, she had the overwhelming support in her district.
RIP Julia

Hard way to go, even for someone as bad as she was.

We got a call yesterday from a neighbor of Julia that a hearse was at her home, so that's what got the ball going on verifying that she had passed away. We were polar opposites on a political scale, and although it's cold to say it now that she's gone, but as a Congresswoman she was useless in Washington for her district in Indy. That being said, I don't wish cancer, let alone death resulting from cancer upon anyone. She was an ineffective representative, but in her heart she was a caring person, she just lacked the drive to truly make a difference. The last time I was with Julia was at a Senior Center on the East side of Indy.....and as always she talked to me, asking how I was, and she tried to accomodate me with an interview. She definately left me with some 'interesting' memories of election day/night hyjinx.....but that was Julia. Unfortunately they put her Grandson Andre on the fast track to jump in her shoes once she passed, and he's just a thug in a suit.... hopefully he wont get the support that Julia had.

didnt one of her grandsons commit murder, which with her being one of the worst enemies of the 2nd amendent in congress she immediately blamed the gun he used, not her grandson.........

I too regret seeing anyone taken out by cancer, but would have to agree that she was a waste of the taxpayers hard earned money. I would agree that she was very personable, but totally ineffective as a legislator, and would hate to see her grandson slip into her now vacant seat, but fear that is what will happen if there is not a concentrated effort to avoid that.

Having loss my wife and brother to cancer, I agreed with the sentiment. Cancer is a terrible way to go. Watching someone waste away is heart breaking. My prayers for the family during this time.
Since I am not in the 7th District I just pray that the people of the 7th vote with their brains and not their hearts.

I agree with Travis' appraisal, even though I didn't know a lot about Julia Carson. Although she never impressed me positively, terminal lung cancer is a hard way to go.

Like most on here I had no use for her politically but will not talk bad of her after she is gone. I do feel her replacement wont be any better.

RIP, like her or not she had it locked down for some time over there.
I always enjoyed her interviews, it was actually hard to understand usually.

I'll be along the funeral procession route as they take her from her home, to the Statehouse via horse drawn caisson.... This will begin @ 730am, and won't arrive @ the Statehouse till 10am. If you are driving in Indy, traffic will be a MESS!!!!!!!!! I have no clue why they don't wait till after rush hour.

I noticed the buses downtown had Thanks Julie signs, OK, can someone tell me what she did that was so great. Yeah she got elected to congress, but what else? Flag Half Staff? Aren't they going a bit overboard with this. No disrespect meant.

Aren't they going a bit overboard with this. No disrespect meant. Know what you mean Tag. I think most feel the same way. Her way of thinking just perpetuates the ghetto life style. I don't care what your race is you CAN break the cycle. These slum land lords get enough off of one of those dumps to make a payment on a nice house. Without home ownership you will not take enough pride in where you live.
