For years, I never had a problem with spam. Never got it at all. I figured it was because I was careful where I typed my email in at. Computers are just like people; if they hang out in raunchy places, they probably have bugs.
About six months ago, I started getting spam. "Enlargement" offers and nigerian bankers; viagra discounts and foriegn lotteries.
Last week it got really bad. Every morning I have about twenty of them. They all are from a "person" and have nonsensical subjects. For example:
"Maryanne Stout Inaniable animate."
My spam blocker is on and clearly isn't doing squat. Any tips??
Thanks.

Early this week I got two on my cell phone in the form of text messages. I had to block any web based text features on my account. I only have one friend who texted me regularly from the web. I sent him this.
Due to spam messages recieved on my phone from the web, you will no longer be able to text me with AIM.
His reply...
That stinks because there are some live nude girls who want to talk to you.
Aren't friends great?

Henderson, TIPS, depends. Are you with a Major ISP? If so they should provide method to report spam. It's a war between spammers and spam blocking. Also is your email address easy to figure out i.e. an address like mikew@ would be a cinch for a tolling software to figure out. Put some none alpha char in the address like mike_3w. Internet by it's design is open (bunch of geeks designed it for the purpose of sharing information .. who knew we would also get advice on enlarging ones manhood). Spammers can get anyone's address by a very simple method: they simply ask the mail server if an email address is valid. The system has to respond yes or no. This is how the system knows to send it's email. It is like this: if I what to know all the valid phone numbers in a given area code I can simply just dial all the possible number combinations. I will either get a ring or a number not found. So now I have a list of all the valid numbers. Same way with email addresses. Now most ISPs have software that can detect and close these connections but only after a certain threshold has been reached. Most mass mailings (from businesses) have a number of invalid address so one can't just shutdown the connection on the first or even the 10th invalid address request. So a spammer's software will most likely start with the easy combination of email address with just all alpha chars so he can get as many valid emails address before his connections are blocked.

I have had the same email for close to 10 or more year, I don't get too many. Maybe I am just lucky. Just delete the ones you don't know

That's the same kind of crap, Retnureed. I'm gonna try and contact Verizon and see if they can figure it out. All of mine looks like it's from the same source.

I contacted them through their website..... what a pain; it was the typical pick a catagory , then type in your question type of place, but it was very uncooperative. I'll let you know if they get back with me.

I think I may have temporarily defeated the spammers. I noted that almost all of the spam with the gibberish subject line is trying to get me to visit a .googlepages.com site. I went into outook express, tools, message rules, then mail. Click "new." Then check mark "where the message body contains specified words." (in our case, .googlepages.com ) then you have to select what you want to do with it. Click on the blue "contains specified words." Then type in .googlepages.com or whatever appears in most of your spam. Don't forget to click apply or OK at the end. Now, any message that contains those words will go directly to wherever you specified.
