Star Editorial Garbage on Prop 174

Seems like they're catching pretty good from most of the responders; the Star really has fallen.

My response:



The editorial "common sense takes a hit" is typical of the uniformed opinions held by folks who nurse an irrational fear and hatred of guns.

The writer starts the aforementioned rant by hinting that the "rising violent crime" in the area and the occasional shooting of legally owned firearms are somehow related. Then the writer warns us of the dangers of drunken New Year's shooting, and "Noctural gunfire." In a bizzare twist, we are later told that these things do not contribute a great deal to the crime problem. ?

The author demonstrates what an urbanite ding-bat he or she is by suggesting that people in the "Brown County woods" can reasonably be expected to be awakened by noctural gunfire. If anything, people in the sticks would be more alarmed by gunfire at night, as gun crime is extremely rare outside urban zones.

The people of Marion County would do better to worry about the real causes of crime, such as decaying nieghborhoods full of poverty, drugs, and crime of infinite variety.

The people of Marion County are smarter than the author of the article, and the council's vote reflects this fact.

Common sense?
You are trying to confuse this proposal with crime.
There IS no relationship.
You HAVE laws to curb crime.
They are not being enforced, that is the problem.
But, instead of ENFORCING the laws we ALREADY HAVE, you want to pass more to REALLY scare the criminals.

Chuckles, you are flat out lying in your article.
The ONLY hysteria is what YOU are attempting to incite with your false editorial.
Just like the last one concerning this.
You fail to mention 'celebratory gunfire' is ALREADY illegal.
Your editorial is a testament as to just how far the media is willing to go in order to paint guns, hunters or gun owners with the same 'GUNS IS JUST EVIL' brush.
I have news for you, and anyone else who thinks guns are the problem.
Crooked people in office, and false media reporting are the problem here.
If you repoerted factual and UNBIASED, the REAL issues would be plain for all to see.

There WAS no real support for this simply because it was a BRAIN DEAD PROPOSAL and it was made public BEFORE it could be voted on.

. . . you fail to mention it was almost 100% who attended opposed the proposal.

The Star is lying.
The town is not out of control.
Crime is.
And more armed citizens willing to fight it is the answer.
NOT cowards to damned stupid to understand you cannot disarm criminals by passing laws.
You disarm criminals by standing UP for yourself and your family, not whimpering in fear and Praying for a miracle to happen.


Well 30 some kids died at VT because NO ONE was allowed to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights on campus.
Not even the staff members.


So can knifes and baseball bats.
Guns were not around when Cain slew Abel.
I have a gun so that when a BAD guy with a gun tries to threaten me or my loved ones, I MIGHT be able to stop him.
No promises, but much better chances than if I were crying my eyes out, cussing myself and my stupidity for NOT owning a gun, while watching a gang rape my little girl.

You are talking violent crime, and this proposal did nothing to address that.

These people must have been dropped on their heads as babies! How many more redundate laws due we need!!!! Enforce the ones we have now and all will be good!!! And these are the same people who want to legalize illegal immigrants!!! Make laws against law abiding citizens, and help criminals break existing laws. What morons!!!!

I had to laugh at the guy's comment about "the mayor"... you gotta love these guys who post comments on articles they clearly haven't even read... Bart Peterson didn't have anything to do with 174 one way or the other... Councilwoman Manfield was the sole proponent...

And as if the Indy City Council has cared what "the mayor" said in the past 20 years or so, be they republican or democrat... those folks have been on there own wavelength for some time now...
