The full City-County Council will vote on this proposal on Monday, June 11, 2006. Even though the public likely won't be allowed to comment we should all try to be present to insure the defeat of this legislation.

Well, if it isn't, these Councilmen need to be dragged out of office. THERE ARE WHAT, 2 MEMBERS SUPPORTING IT? And half a dozen uninformed or misinformed residents? If this passes Monday, Tuesday morning should find a courthouse full of people demanding the resignation of every member who voted for it.

Everyone wants to blame Nagin for Katrina....he didn't do it!
The Mayor of any city has a city council of sort to help manage the city....he don't do it alone.
The City of New Orleans is who is at fault, they sit how many feet below sea level and had NO evacuation plan that would work, in place in the event of a hurricane.

Camby - the problem most people have with Nagin, myself included, was that he and his police chief wasted valuable emergency response resources going around confiscating legal firearms from citizens trying to protect their homes... as of a month or so ago, I saw an article in The Rifleman that most folks STILL haven't been able to get their firearms back, and Nagin didn't see anything wrong with the confiscations and wasn't planning on doing anything about the return problem...

I don't remember hearing anything about that............
I would also have a problem with someone confiscating a leagally owned and possessed firearm.
The WHOLE Katrina aftermath was messed up, federal, state and city goverments are all to blame. BUT........if I lived in New Orleans and someone told me a Cat 5 hurricane was on the way, I wouldnt wait around to see it.

Absolutely! There is NO excuse for disarming civilians, and especially at a time when they might need their guns more than ever. And now I understand there are STILL a hundred or so bodies stored in storage buildings yet to be disposed of? . . .?

Yep! This and the other decisions and ignorant things he said and did post-Katrina...

Yep, there is no excuse for his actions. Congress passed a law prohibiting that kind of confiscation in the aftermath.

Nagin = unused schoolbusses and stranded, disarmed evacuees.
That's all there is to it.
He had resources at his disposal and refused to use them.
Then he stole people's only means of self defense.
He was/is an utterly incompetent, corrupt, Daley wannabe who should be hauled into Federal Court for violations of the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments, which, last time I checked, were still part of the Supreme Law of the land.

Yep. He could care less about the rights of the people.... Lets make sure that doesn't happen here at home... Marion County needs our help. Show up and show some support tonight if you can.
