I had Lasik back at the end of Dec. Went to my last follow up last night and I was 20/15 in both eyes. I was 20/50 in the right and 20/40 in the left. Pretty amazing stuff.

My wife made appointments yesterday to get her eyes lasered next month... The only bad part is she has to get glasses (hasn't worn any in 15 years) to wear for a whole 2 1/2 weeks.
She's been wanting to get it done for years!

My boyfriend has worn very strong bifocals since he was a small child and has mentioned that he might eventually want to get this done. I have always had perfect vision with no glasses (even though I wanted glasses as a kid, lol) so this is not even an issue for me! I'm glad to hear that you had success with this, for those of us who need and want it done.

What, exactly, do they do during the surgery? Do they cut your eye open and remove the lens? Just curious.

I believe they peel back the outer layer, then re-shape the lens of your eye to match what your contact prescription would be.... That description is probably *way* oversimplified but someone who knows more than I can add details!

I had my done 4-5 years ago. The only problem is lasik dry eye which varies from person to person. In the winter months i use eye drops to keep my eyes from drying and blurring other than that I'm totally satisfied. h.h.

They cut a lens flap. peal back the lens and then shoot you with the laser. I was done in under 5 minutes with both eyes. I had to go in before for a 2 hour exam so they would know what to do with the laser. That is the easilest I can explain it.

What, exactly, do they do during the surgery? Do they cut your eye open and remove the lens? Just curious. I believe they gouge out the eyeball and severe the optic nerve. The doctor then gets out one of those laser pointers and does something..... Sorry, I am still bitter from my weekend turkey experience. . I don't think I have my facts quite straight. Good luck with the lasik. Larry

Run, don't walk, to a reputable Dr and have it done.
I had my right eye (my only "good" one) done in January. Went from 20/400+ (I had to wear contacts & bifocals to see) to no glasses or contacts at all. I haven't checked the acuity, but I'm guessing 20/20 on the average.
If you have the scratch, pay the extra to get "Intra-Lase" waveform LASIK. In that proceedure, they use 2 lasers rather than a Knife & Laser. No knife (called a micro-keretome) means better/faster healing and less of a (already small) chance of infection.
Waveform Lasik can also fix astigmatisim.
In the Indy area, see Price Vision Group. Dr. Price is #1 or #2 in the country.
Up here near Chicago, see Chicago Corneal Consultants.

What, exactly, do they do during the surgery? Do they cut your eye open and remove the lens? Just curious. That is actually another proceedure called "Inter Ocular Lens Replacement" and is used extensively for cateract patients. They don't really cut the eye open so much as poke a fine slit in the side through which they can withdraw the old natural lens and insert the new one. The new lens can be made to whatever power your eyeball needs.

I had my astigmatism fixed too. There was no knife involved. I also got the life time upgrade if I ever need it. It is like 9000,00 to have the lens replacement per eye.

I had it done about 5 years ago, it was great. Less that 30 minutes from the time you walk in the door, to the time you leave. Awesome.
I was at 20/15 for a while, but i think it has come back a bit since then, still better than 20/20 though, just not quite the sharpness I had for the first year or so.
Never had any problems at all. Best thing I ever did with my life.

I looked into Lasik Surgery once, but with my degree of Astigmatism, the Doctor said I would still require glasses. Maybe someday when this type eye surgery is perfected I can have it done and be free of glasses!

Check with Dr. Price in Indy. Especially if you have been turned down elsewhere. Really. The new waveform lasers are incredible. I got my "second opinion" from him in determining whether or not I could get LASIK or needed an IOL implant. pricevisiongroup.com/

My mom had it done 10 years ago when it really started taking off. At that time, if you had astigmatism, you weren't even a candidate. I had it done wtih my astigmatism and it worked great. The advances recently have been astounding. I reccommend Dr. Grossnickle in Warsaw, IN. He was doing the surgery in this area years before anyone else.
