It seems that a few refineries are not running at 100% capacity and that is why we have the latest price jump. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18522401/Aren't we running a little close to the edge when a partial shutdown of a refinery or two pinches the gas supply? Wait... I feel an idea coming..... I KNOW!!! BUILD MORE REFINERIES!!!!! I'm sick and tired of these stupid excuses. In a big war, they'd build a refinery in a matter of a few months if not weeks. I bet if you asked the oil companies to do it now, some suit would hem and haw about how it would take ten years and five bazillion dollars or some other B.S. The truth is, they might have to dip just a little bit into their massive profits to build one. Greedy morons!

The funny part of this(if there is such a thing) is that in Indiana..Lawrenceburg especially where I'm from the cost of a gallon of regular is $3.19,I work here in Mason Ohio and can buy the same crap for $3.04,plus I was in Florida last week and saw gas along the interstate for well under $3.00 a gallon,I think the cheapest I saw was $2.73..so go figure..no there isn't a need to figure anything, they've got you and me over the barrell on this gas business!!!!!!!!!!

The thing that kills me is,this station close to me (Casey's) always makes the high octane stuff cheaper than the cheap stuff when prices get high,I guess they think we are getting a deal.I did see where gas went down 3 pennies($3.16).I would think after making record profits these companies could invest in their refineries..Yeah right....I know I don't drive the ol' F-150 around like I use to.

All the Caseys sell the higher octane cheaper to my knowledge. It is because there is 10% ethenol blended into the premium. I think . . .

Isn't it convenient for several refineries to have mateinance shut downs at the same time. What will it be next?

Oil is a buisness.... and while it sucks for you and me and everyone not involved in it..... it is still run exactly like what it is.... the oil tycoons have never made it a secret that they are out to amke as much money as possible..... it is not like they are not-for-profit... this is just how big buisness works.... It is not only oil companies that do this..... look at TRP feilds for farmers... the government pay them not to plant certain feilds to keep the price of certain produce above a preset amount.... but no one complains when they have to pay an extra 3 cents per ear of corn.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see something done about this... I would like to see us start using our own oil ... there is enough in Alaska alone to keep the US in enough gas to run everything for over 100 years. I would like to see cars run on different fule something not petrolium based... but here is the problem with that...say we make a corn based fuel and it becomes what every vehicle uses..... what do think will happent o the price of corn? It is just a question of who do give our money too and who bones us and hikes up prices, because it is going to happen.... humans are greedy it is our nature.

Try looking up what it takes to "just build more refineries" sometime, the regulatory hurdles alone have kept new ones from being built for thirty years, thanks tree huggers. There's also the cost to consider, it currently costs over $1B dollars to build a refinerery, and it seems that the NIMBY principle also causes problems. Even once you get past those obstacles why would you build and have to maintain more refineries when you can coast along on the ones you have, with occasional purchases on the spot market to fill any gaps? Right now they have the ideal situation from their own perspective, they're able to supply just enough of the demand to command top dollar with minimal cost and effort to themselves, which is pretty much what capitalism is all about. I hate it too, but I don't see anyone offering a practical, or even workable solution.

Whats gonna happen when we get to $4.00 a gallon?....and we WILL~!
I am very fortunate because my employer puts gas in my truck, so we only have to pay for fuel in our Avalanche, but even with that we are spending over $100.00 a week for fuel.
Pretty hard to save any money these days!
