tinyurl.com/383jvcIt is very, very sad that especially after the Virginia Tech shooting, these little brats have the gall to actually bully a girl who might have saved their lives rather than thanking her and honoring her. If there is one thing that really, REALLY ticks me off, it's bullying, so this is awful to read about anyways, but especially the fact that she's being bullied by the peers she might have saved. I have so much respect for this girl for doing what is right, even though the consequences are significant and shouldn't happen her, much less anyone. This is, unfortunately, very true and disgusting to me...

Good for her... Now her classmates that agree with her should tell the others to BACK OFF...It's really a shame that other kids don't have the integrity or strength of character to stand up for this girl when they know it is right...but this is oftentimes why bullying continues--because (at least it seems) that no kid ever sticks up for the victim...

This little girl is learning a hard, but very real lesson-often times, having integrity and principles causes difficulties when we exercise those traits-but she does have the strength of character to have done the right thing, and that is what we should be letting her know. She is mature beyond her years, as well as , easily beyond her peers, and if we can get messages to her, it should be that-that she is showing real courage in the face of overwhelming burden and oppression, but that she isn`t alone, that we see her for the hero she is. Yorktown should honor her as hero, and if they do not, then they are a sgulity of harrassing her as her friends.

I hate to tell everybody, but most school officials simply do not care about protecting students.
When I was in school years ago--- a tame county school--- nothing whatsoever would be done about bullying until the victim retaliated. Usually the harassed would punch the bully, then the VICTIM would get in trouble. "You should have come to us...fighting solves nothing..." they would say. B.S.!
It would be impossible to stop all bullying. The point is, It's usually up to the kids to protect themselves.
Some nerdy, slightly crazy kid gets bullied for years, the teachers do nothing. He sees the media make a hero out of cho and Eric and Dylan, and he sees a way out. "I'll show them now!" he thinks. "Now they all will be scared of me."
As far as I'm concerned, the people that turn a blind eye to bullying from students are as guilty as the shooter.

As far as I'm concerned, the people that turn a blind eye to bullying from students are as guilty as the shooter. You are so right about this. From personal experience, I was bullied relentlessly as a kid continuously for 8 years--and the teachers either sat back and did nothing when they saw it, or they did the wrong thing thinking it would help, and refused to believe it wasn't helping even after seeing that it wasn't. It eventually got to the point that I had to transfer to another school district to even be able to eat in the cafeteria or walk down the hall without being physically and emotionally attacked--and the bullying didn't let up until I moved to Indiana. It was by far the worst 8 years of my life, from which I am still healing and probably will forever. The thought of "going postal" on my tormentors didn't even enter into my mind, probably because my parents had good values which they modeled to me throughout my lifetime AND I faced consequences for bad behavior, beginning at home. I don't think that anyone, no matter how different they are, should have to live like I did for even a nanosecond while the school looks on and repeats the same old recycled lie that there's nothing they can do and that "kids will be kids". Yes, kids will probably try to bully forever, but at least if other kids--and to a significant extent, the schools--stuck up for the victim AND parents modeled appropriate behavior at home and provided appropriate consequences for bullying behavior, I think kids would be much less likely to bully as they are in this day and age. One of my favorite experts on bullying (and someone with whom I can very much personally relate) is Jodee Blanco--her book is outstanding and her website is awesome for those who are interested: www.jodeeblanco.com/
