This afternoon, I am getting interviewed on WIBC I don't know if it will be taped or live, but it concerns Duck day- a project I've developed for three area schools: 7th graders use Cedar Swamp as a classroom and utilize nature as a learning tool- especially waterfowl. The Christel DeHaan Family Foundation sponsors it, the Nature Conservancy gives use 500-1000 trees, We build wood duck boxes, and learn why wetlands are important. In the past, two mussasagua rattle snakes have shown up as have hundredds or waterfowl, loons, green and blue herons, deer, a fox, leeches... the list goes on. People from Steubne County have helped oiut with everything from water and porta poties to T-shirt printers and a sheriff deputy who provides the doughnuts. DU and the state biologist are attending this year as are 400 kids. Want to help? PM or email me. go to the Indiana DU website for a few pics and a student's perspective from last year.
