Teen to graduate college after 1 year
Now plucky Michigan 19-year-old is heading to law school
The Associated Press
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — A 19-year-old suburban-Detroit resident is on track to graduate from The University of Michigan after just a year of study.
Nicole Matisse, of Bloomfield Hills, is to officially graduate in the summer with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
As a student at Lahser High School, Matisse had exhausted the curriculum by her junior year. Between the exams she passed on eight advanced placement courses and the eight classes she took at Oakland Community College, she had amassed enough credits to enter the university last fall as a junior.
"When I got to U-M, I only took 19 credits, and I was bored and craved more credits," she told The Detroit News for a Wednesday story. "So even when I took 27 credits this semester, I felt I could have added even more."
'Determined young lady' It's unclear whether any other students have done what Matisse will accomplish this year, but Donna Wessel Walker, assistant director of the honors program, said she's never seen it happen.
"She's taking in one semester the course load that most people take in two," Wessel Walker said. "She is one determined young lady."
Matisse's next step is to start as a first-year student at the Wayne State University law school in Detroit.

There was a girl(?) (woman/genius/nerd) when I was a frosh at University of Oklahoma who was graduating with a double major in Accounting and, somthing else, who, at graduation, was just barely old enough to go to OBC and recieve the US Army Commission she was slated to recieve from 2 years ROTC... at 17.
She was bored with HS, quit, got a GED, applied to Uni, and started taking monster hours.
A double degree and a Commission at 17... crazy... If she didn't burn out, she's make a good President tho...

Why on Earth would you want to miss out on 3 more years of the most fun you could ever have in your life? I wouldn't trade those years for anything.

I took 19 credit hours a semester when I was doing my undergrad, and that included organic chem, biochem, upper level biology, and what-have-you and I was co-teaching bio and med sciences classes, studying for the MCAT, working as a research assistant, and working at a museum on top of that...and yes, I had no life, unless dancing occasionally with the IU ballroom dance club constitutes a life! This alone was a lot--double that is impossible! I work with a postdoc now who is supposedly three months younger than I am--apparently he did high school in 3 years, undergrad in 3 years, and grad school in 3 years...can you say Doogie Howser??

That is incredible...my brother is actually graduating with an electrical and computer engineering bachelor's from Purdue next week, and I know how hard he worked in those classes!

Tell him congrats for me. Your 19hr semester doesn't sound like any fun either. I will, thanks! And yes, my many 19 credit hour semesters were not very fun--but at least I got through two bachelor's degrees and a minor in 4 years, so I guess in the long run it was worth it. It actually really helped to have activities outside of school to balance things out, even if they took more time.

In biology or another hard science it would be nearly impossible for all but the most gifted individuals. Heck, organic chem I & II with a couple of the professors at IU was near enough to impossible for me by themselves.

Mbogo: You don't know how happy I am that someone else knows first-hand the terror of the obnoxious-but-really-awfully-insecure flaming narcissists that constitute the majority of the orgo profs at IUB...one in particular comes to mind...his name starts with an "M" and ends with an "ontgomery"... I think dealing with his kind is nearly impossible for everyone, "gifted" or not!! And as I'm pretty sure I'm not gifted, my run was pretty much nearly impossible--I really should have tried to find a boyfriend instead of worked myself to death...

I took 18 credit hours per semester for two straight years, along with summer school, along with working 40-50 hours per week, consuming a couple cases of beer a week, eating a few large pizzas a week, chasing the women around, performing stupid stunts with my roommates, and whatever else I cannot remember at this time!!! : )
Man those were the days!!
