just purchased my son's 2007 hunting license (on line).....$7.00 WHAT A BARGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!
When useing the departments on-line license buying program, it does not list the youth license, you must choose "combo" to bring up the option. I wrote the IDNR last year about this issue and it's still not fixed.
A buddy of mine called me this morning asking me how to purchase his daughters license on line as he didnt see any option for "youth"..........
It is very confusing, I wish they would fix it!!!!!!

I could put a little tutorial in the desk reference explaining how to get to the youth license this week. I'll have to buy mine so I can see exactly whats going on.

I sent this thread to the head of Fish & Wildlife and asked him to get it fixed.

My son will go thru some shock this season as he turns 19 in May. No more 7$ deer hunting seasons.

I think they should out grow the youth tags at age 16 or 17.
If they can drive themselves to the hunting woods, they should be treated like adults!

I thought the youth hunting license was cut off at age 16?

Nope, 18 is the age......and if your 18th birthday is say in October, and you purchase your youth license in August....you get to hunt with that youth license after you turn 18 (Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan)....so you are really 18 and 6 months old and still can use the youth license.

Camby - here's the response I got back from DNR. It's been modified to protect the guilty:
"The youth license is a consolidated hunting and fishing license. We have it available to purchase under our combination licenses category along with (adult) hunt/fish. We can't list a license type in two license categories because of the many-to-many relationship. We change it's position; we confuse repeat online purchasers and iPOS retailers who know where it is currently. I'm still trying to come up with a solution to making it easier to locate the Youth license. We're seeing if we can clarify it on the screen before you actually see the license listed (the one that lists the three categories: combo, hunting and fishing). Hope to get an ok from Indiana Interactive this week. I'll let you know. Thanks for the feedback, "
I think they will be putting a notice before you go to the combo selection screen notifying you of where it is. It's not a perfect fix but it should end some of the confusion.

Last September before the Youth Deer Season opened, a friend of mine that is part owner of the land that we hunt wanted to bring his son up for the youth season. I call the DNR, asking them if the hunt was for Non-Residents Youth as well. In there regulation book, and web site it cleary said "All youths". Well, I guess this question never crossed there minds. They did not have a answer for me. I was transferred 4 to 5 times trying to come up with a answer. Finally I was told what the law was suppose to be and what it "Should" have said in the regulations. I could not believe the incompetence in are DNR, and I believe a couple of first graders could do a better job running things.

The fact of the matter is, there is noone to contact to get a definitive answer on anything. I can talk to one of the CO's in my county and get an interpretation that could easily result in a violation or fine by a different officer in the SAME county or elsewhere in the state. I've dealt with the Central L.E. office in Indy as well as my regional headquarters and have gotten conflicting answers between the two. There really is no reliable source to get firsthand information.
