The Indiana Senate passed their budget with $6,000,000 for Heritage Trust (fund used to buy ground) for 2 years. It also passed $1,000,000 for Clean Water Indiana Fund (used for habitat improvment). I'm satisfied with the Heritage Trust money but sportsmen had asked for $5,000,000 for Clean Water Indiana. As a comparision the Senate voted $6,000,000 for swimming pool rehabilatation in the state parks. Guess we don't rank very high, ? Jack

It's a sign of the times Jack. We fought so hard for this money. I know that you did all you could and without your help in alerting us to these issues, we would have come out even shorter on the budget stick. The members here on this site and all sportsman statewide owe you a great big thanks for your diligence in these matters. My only regret with this budget is losing funding for Minnehaha. This is a great jewel that will be a real shame to lose out on. Any millionaires out there who care to make a charitable donation?

The budget isn't settled guys. The House passed their budget and the senate passed their budget but they are not the same. They have to go to a conference committee now to resolve differences. You can still email your legislator or someone on the conference committee to ask that the changes in CWI go to $5 mil. Don't give up yet. There's always a chance.

Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program - CREP. We get about $8 from the feds for every $1 we put into wildlife habitat. Ohio for example has 300,000 acres of CREP. We have about 10,000 tops. Again the issue is sending our money to Washington to be redistributed to other states for their wildlife programs rather than bringing it home to provide for Hoosiers. Imagine if we had an extra 290,000 acres of wildlife habitat in Indiana.
