Hello everyone, I am new to this site, and its about time I got on here. I have been hearing alot of good things about this site. I am 2dog, I am with Old School Outdoors Club. We are a new club that is helping out with handicapped hunts, a mentor program pairing up our rooky outdoorsmen with older experienced outdoorsmen, and doing hunter ed courses for our youth and outdoorsmen of all ages. We are actively getting involved with youth hunts and fishing derbies. I just wanted to get on here and tell a little about the club, hope to get to know you guys.

I've heard some good things on your group.
Can you bring us up to date on what has happened so far?

We just had our first meeting last weekend. We had a pretty good turn out. Scott Johnson, a ICO, talked with us about the Hunter Ed courses. We are going to have one this summer, and one in the fall before deer season. Preston Crabtree, Primos ProStaffer, did a turkey seminar for us that was very good. We are having meetings every 2 months, with a news letter coming out on the off month. Our next meeting is set for May 19th from 10 am to 12 noon, at the Gander Mountain store in Castleton. We are going to try and get people to go have lunch afterwards and just get to know each other a little. I am the president, Mike McQuinn is the vice president, and Daniel Rowe is our Secrectary\Treasurer. We have came a long way in a short time, and we are very excited about the future of this club.

Thanks Iron, I started this club because of my hunting mentor that is in his 80's. He quit deer hunting because he couldnt physically drag them out any more, and he does not use ATV's. Actually he hunts with long bows that he makes himself, he is incredible. I told him to keep hunting and when he gets one down to call me and I will drag them out for him. I started thinking that there were probably alot me guys like him out there, and now we got Old School Outdoors. Those guys like him are a priceless resource that is not being utilized nearly enough. So put those guys with a young up and comer that needs someone good to learn from, and you have a win win situation the way I see it. We are also going to work with the Handicapped hunts and youth hunts as much as possible. I think we are going to do alot of good for alot of people. By helping other people we are helping ourselves at the same time, I really cant find a bad point about any of it, just wish I would have thought of it sooner. We have alot of really good people in the club already. We also are joining the Indiana Sportsmens Roundtable as a club.

We are going to have a survival skills class this summer that will be in the woods "hands On', a first aid course, fishing derbies, rock climbing seminar, hunter ed courses, club camping weekends, hunting weekends, and anything else that club members can come up with.

That sounds great..... it is always good to meet someone who is doing so much for the future (as well as the past) of our tradition with the outdoors.

I just got through talking to 2dog on the phone and if you could bottle enthusiasm he would be a gold mine.
I really believe that this group, who's goal is all about hunting and fishing, will do great things for Indiana.
I've done two things after talking to him:
1) I've asked for an application to join the club.
2) I've set them up a place on here so they can promote their club, post meeting minutes, advertise coming events, etc, etc.
Their section is at the bottom of the page. We will be making some changes there as time goes by as 2dog and the club get their feet on the ground..
I discussed this with 2dog and this will be an open forum for posting.

Woody, That's great helping them out! I talked with Joe (2dog) the other night and mentioned to him to check out this site and talk with you about this very thing. I appreciate your helping what he's trying to accomplish! I am also encouraged by what he is trying to do with the club. It is awesome, really focusing on our youth, but also paying honor and tribute to our older generation and encouraging them to pass on their wisdom! What a legacy to pass on to our youth! Again thanks to you and your great site here!

I think its incredible myself. The wisdom and experience many of the older hunters possess is something worth passing on. I will look into this one for sure.
