I seen that in yesterdays online Star. I thought it was strange they were linking a DNR document that was eions old. I also thought it was strange they were covering a car-deer accident.....must have been a slow news day!

No matter how much they reduce the herd there will always be car/deer collisions, there may be fewer of them, but not enough to make a real difference.

If the insurance companies wanted to make a difference, they need to start offering a rebate on your insurance rates for each deer you kill. Even if it's just the cost of the tags. Because, ultimately, we HUNTERS are the ones that are keeping the deer in-check and keeping car-deer collisions down...

I don't think the insurance companies lobby the DNR at all.
Does anyone on here believe that a deer/auto collision is money out of the the insurance company's pocket?
Nope, it is out of their customer's pocket. The insurance companies just pass along their costs to us.
They WILL make XX amount of profit no matter how many deer are or are not hit and killed.
The farmers of Farm Bureau (different business than the insurance part)do lobby the DNR to kill more deer.

Yes, but hitting a deer (and the subsequent claim) is not as easily recouped as if you get in an accident with another car.
If you don't have comprehensive coverage on your car insurance pays NOTHING. However, if you do have comprehensive, and hit a deer, it's considered one of those acts of nature that you couldn't do anything about. Thus, they can't say, "you were in an accident, your rates are going up". It takes a cycle or two before they will recover those costs by raising *everyone's* rates. Plus on a deer collision, if they pay for the damage, the vast majority of the time they are paying 100% of the costs (you don't pay a deductable). So it does cost them.
You are right, though, they will make that money back from you, but only if you stay with them for long enough.

It would not suprise me if the insurance companies are involved.
