...the Indiana House passed a budget that contains no money for Heritage Trust or for Minnehaha. These were the only two line items for land acquisition for sportsmen in the budget.
I guess the representatives of the Indiana House don't like us much. Boys it's time to get on the horn to your senator and get the money for Heritage Trust ($6,000,000) and Minnehaha ($2,000,000) put back into the budget. The next budget session isn't for 2 more years and Minnehaha will be gone to the developers by then. Act now or lose it forever.

Good catch. Another Action Item to work on. What's the time hack? I'm pretty involved in HB 1022, HB 1092 and the PCR thing right now...

Well, the budget is probably the single most important issue in the legislature right now so don't look for it to fly through the senate. Most likely it will go to committee and a different budget will emerge. It's before and during that committee hearing that the public has a chance to weigh in. The easiet thing to do is simply contact your senator and explain what these 2 items are about and how you want them back in the budget. With 2 differing budgets (and it always happens) the 2 houses (House and Senate) will send the 2 budgets to a conference committee and hammer out the real budget.
The point is if we don't yell and scream now we lose..and in the case of Minnehaha it could be forever.

I just checked the senate committee schedule and the following are being discussed Monday morning:
HB1001 (the Budget) HB 1146 HB 1226 HB 1299 (senior fishing license) HB 1657 HB 1762
If we don't get after the senate on the budget we will lose Minnehaha.

In January, the Governor's 2-year budget proposal recommended $6 million for the Indiana Heritage Trust and $5 in new funding for Clean Water Indiana! The end of March, the state budget bill passed the house. CWI funding was kept in, but funding for the Indiana Heritage Trust was zeroed out! Now it is on to the Senate and the budget bill will be heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, the 12th... Please help us restore funding for the Indiana Heritage Trust and keep funding for Clean Water Indiana by contacting your senator! It only takes Two Clicks of a Mouse!! CLICK HERE: capwiz.com/icansaveland/issues/alert/?alertid=9486586&type=TA&show_alert=1(Your senator's name automatically pops-up with the inclusion of your zip code; then it targets appropriations members and non-appropriation members, so that you can send the appropriate message to your Senator.) Wasn't there something said about a year or so ago, within the last three anyway about the DNR was not going to renew most of the Minnihaha lease because of the acquisition of Fairbanks Landing?
