M.C. man charged with illegal hunting

A Michigan City man was arrested Saturday on multiple illegal hunting charges and marijuana possession.
Department of Natural Resources officers arrested Thomas C. Lilley, 43, at his home on 2957 Wrobel Ave. at 6:17 p.m. Saturday.
Officers located marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Lilley and inside his vehicle. His vehicle was impounded, and Lilley was transported to the LaPorte County Jail.
Lilley was charged with two counts each of illegally possessing whitetail deer and wanton waste (killing deer and failing to retrieve them), and one count each of illegal use of snares and using snares without consent and written permission of a landowner.
DNR officers allege that the hunting activities occurred sometime between early October and late December at a wooded area north of the South Shore railroad tracks on Karwick Road.
District Commander Lt. Jerry Shepherd said the DNR learned of Lilley's activities in late December and said they have photographs of the snares installed on the property.
Lilley made an appearance in LaPorte Superior Court Monday morning.
This isn't the first time Lilley has run afoul of fish and game laws. In December 1986, he was convicted for illegal possession of deer in Michigan City.
