Congratulations, did you get a picture?[/quote] I added a trailing video, probably right after you replied. I did get a few pics but hadn't got em on Imgur yet.

Over the last three seasons I have passed a number of bucks with my bow and missed a doe last year. This year I have a lot going on; many home projects, including a bathroom remodel and plans to sell another house. All this and a new job promised less hunting time, so I figured I’d shoot whatever this time around.
My first sit was on the 14th, a morning after a good rain. Perhaps 45 minutes went by when two deer appeared to the Northeast, a direction they don’t usually come from and on this morning vaguely downwind. I realized they were bucks only when one began battling a sapling. One was a short spike and the other a forky with pencil thin antlers. Forky clearly smelled something but seemed more interested in finding me than running. He gave me several shots, but I was still debating. Another deer with more of a rack appeared from where they came from. It looked like he might have had a little more meat, but it’s hard to say. I decided I would shoot him if He gave me the chance.
The two smaller bucks kept walking around in front of me, while the bigger one hung back. I knew he’d likely follow if they finally moved on. Eventually they did, and the third buck began to follow. I drew the 64lb. Mathews, and naturally the first two stopped, and number three did as well. I had to stay at full draw for probably three minutes until the first two moved again. When my target emerged at 25 yards I bleated. When he stopped I steadied my aim and shot. I heard the hit and he ran maybe 50 yards and stopped at the edge of a very steep hill that many deer have disappeared into. I thought he probably dropped, but I wasn’t gonna push it.
I waited around 45 minutes. Probably 15 minutes in I heard a snort just below the rim of the canyon. As it turned out, it was likely him. When I got down he wasn’t where he disappeared, but I found good blood. He had turned back toward where he had come from and I found him at the bottom of the hill, maybe 100 yards down. I dragged him maybe 30 yards up the steep terrain before the landowner arrived and we used rope to bring him the rest of the way. It turns out waiting was a good idea. The entry hole was near the paunch, and the exit in the vitals. I think he walked slowly along for some time, unheard because of the wet leaves.
The broadhead was a NAP spitfire on an Easton 340 Helios. I never found the arrow. It's a shame I did not have a camera running, as it would have been entertaining, but I did make a video of the trailing job.
I wish you all success this season!

Great thread! Back in 2000 or so I had a rough season. As I recall it was in January with a few days Left. I had set up on the snowy ground with an older compound sighted in just for my bulky coveralls. I sat against a tree with no blind. At sundown a doe appeared and I got my shot at 15 yards. For some reason I thought I had missed. The deer ran maybe 30 yards and looked back, stomping it’s foot, appearing perfectly healthy. I was ready to cry. It stood for perhaps 15 or 20 seconds, then gave a wet snort and tipped over. I was over the moon. It remains my favorite kill I think. I shot a doe on a clifty park hunt in 2004. It ran and I bleated to hopefully get it to stop, which it did. It stood for around five seconds and simply dropped in it’s tracks and never twitched.

We are but a few hours into this and we hear that the alleged perp was stark raving mad, yet was loose to walk among us. This guy has, in addition to being committed for two weeks this year, threatened to shoot up a National guard facility and reported hearing voices. What do you have to do to get into the nuthouse these days?
If we do anything, it'll be to swing the pendulum too far and restrict gun sales to anyone who has ever talked to a therapist, or mad a sad FB post, instead of taking violent nutballs off the street.
As far as I am concerned, if you seriously threaten to shoot up ANY place, you need to go away for a while. MAGA- Make asylums Great Again!
And get ready for the sudden rash of other shootings that always follow the non-stop media frenzy that these shootings create.

I'm not trying to make folks mad or upset, but The Book of Revelation is upon us and has been unfolding for quite some time now The rise of almost casual murder ( among other things ) makes it hard to disagree. Another one of these that "heard voices." "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

That’s great! The ability to “ tell on yourself” is a good trait! Good luck with the treatments.

Two bucks at goodwill! Four discs of hunting films and interviews, featuring Fred and pals like Charlie Munger and Glen St. Charles chasing various critters like Kodiak bear, deer and Tigers.. An interesting time capsule and a great look at one of the Founders of modern bowhunting. Some eyebrow raising details in the light of modern game management, like the deliberate introduction of sambar deer to St. Vincent island florida by the U.S. government, or even moving Roosevelt Elk to Afognak. In one memorable scene Fred's boat pilot shot glass bottles with his m1 carbine over the pristine waters of Alaska. The first disc features a couple of precious interviews with Papa Bear as well. Looking forward to watching the rest!

As some of you know I recently took the job of DOC supervisor at Clifty Falls.( I'll be the guy shuttling inmates around to help out.} I have had to attend mandatory training inside Madison Correctional Facility, a women's prison housing around 700 level 1 and 2 female offenders. On day one a surprise audit evicted us from the training room, so to occupy us we were given a tour--dorms, library, bathrooms, etc. ( Interestingly the prison has a dog program and I was surprised to see a woman between sessions that had a room with six or seven sleeping puppies in it ). Day two was Use of Force training; the legal mumbo-jumbo and learning some strikes and holds. At one point we were learning how to fall- chin tucked, arms out. One poor lady went down and as her legs went up a loud fart echoed through the training room. Awkward. When I finally escaped ( pun intended ) I was getting in the truck when I heard a loud thumping a few cars over. While driving past I saw a nice gobbler attacking his reflection in the door of another car. I got a little video but unfortunately missed most of the pecking. I finished the day out learning how to check the inn pool's Chlorine and PH, and then rode around helping a guy cut stumps down to 18" so the DNR's designated stump man can get his machine on them. Also saw a brand new Gator, faster and a lot quieter than our older model. It also has wipers and a nanny feature that precludes speeds over ten MPH unless you are buckled. All in all, a good day.

She would doubtless be saddened to know I wouldn't know her if I saw her. Good riddance anyway, if she constantly throws ist and phobe around whenever someone disagrees with her. Lose an argument, start tossing out labels!

**UPDATE**
Well I have survived thus far, though I'd guess that several years have dropped off of my life from the stress.
One funny story: Since I have a key to the office I came in early a few days ago, the idea being to make sure I could get the safe open early enough to have the money bags ready for the AM shift. I'm already super nervous, flying solo in a world of printed reports, deposit slips, and credit card receipts. I got the safe combo right and the dial stiffened, indicating I had hit the sweet spot. All that remained was an upward tug on the handle and .... the handle broke off in my hand.
As it turns out, the ridiculously thin handle had broken 12 years earlier.( The maintenance man at the time was the current office manager's father, which is the only reason we know how old the repair is ) He had fashioned a metal sleeve that held the two pieces together and this was wrapped with some kind of brown tape. It was really a pretty good bit of hillbilly repair work to hold up that long, only to give way in the grasp of an already bug-eyed office trainee. A pair of giant pliers later facilitated the opening of the ancient safe.
On a brighter note, the office manager came in today to do some last minute stuff before her vacation so I was paroled to work outside. There was a snag with the inmates so I got to work with the "trail boss," a friendly fellow named Kenny. I got to drive a Bobcat for the first time. Although herky-Jerky as expected, it was fairly intuitive otherwise. Getting into it was probably the hardest part. I was about two cheeseburgers away from not being able to secure the pull-down safety bar. Interestingly, the machine was a push-button affair, with a code required for start up. I was able to practice by lurching around the "lay-down yard," a bizarre mixture of lumber, extra equipment, and junk such as discarded toilets before taking a pallet of firewood to the campground. We then bounced down trail 8 in a gator to remove a fallen tree. All-in-all a good day!

The DOC part of the title is merely that. I’m a full-time DNR employee that is in charge of the offenders. Our boss is wanting to use them every day we can. I think they have most weekends off. Not sure how many parks use them; I know that Hardy Lake uses people from Madison. Ok so this is actually local inmates from county jails then? Guess the “prison” term though me off. No, it's a gen-yoo-wine prison, Madison Correctional Facility. It shares a boundary with the park; in fact, a large part of the park's 1,519 acres were acquired from the grounds of the Madison State Hospital, now the MCF.

Interesting…. Never would of thought a State Park would had a DOC job that was full time and that they use prison help every day. The DOC part of the title is merely that.
