I think these calls are in the same category as the Knight & Hale steady ready, "something new to get your money". I deer hunt almost every day of bow and gun and have for the last fifteen years and Ive never heard this supposedly growl in the woods. I'll stick with what i have heard a doe bleat and buck grunt. h.h.

Cervids are not physically capable of roaring , and I sincerely doubt their ability to growl as well . I've never personally heard a deer growl or roar , and never encountered anyone else who has , nor heard any empirical evidence that might even suggest that they do .I've also never had any luck whatsoever with their much vaunted can call , not once have I ever attracted a deer of either sex with one despite two years of field use with it . Mr. Barnum is smiling somewhere right now ...

Ah yes the can. Does anyone else remember the cow in a can or what ever it was called back in the 50's. Same thing just upgraded from a kids toy to an adults toy. Yeah PT's laughing at me too.

I remember the silent dog whistle that they put out to locate turkeys. Charged 10 times what you could buy a real dog whistle for. It worked if you were around some dogs. Blow that whistle, the dogs howled and the turkeys gobbled at the dogs. .

Tip I picked up on "The Can" from Bowsite... If you need it to be louder, simply blow through the bottom hole, instead of tipping it. Watch how hard you blow though, on my smaler version, it pushes the disc up to the top and will make it sound *really* funny.

I've had deer respond to the can as well....but also NUMEROUS cattle! I have to honestly say though I may invest in the snort/wheeze call. I've seen a few shows (other than Drury's) where bucks in view neither responded to rattling or grunt tubes, but as soon as the ole' snort/wheeze was thrown at them, they turned on a dime! The ears were pinned back, the hair stood up on their necks, and they walked right in. May be colorful editing, but I'm a sucker for new stuff from time to time!!! I think I have a enough discipline to stay away from BSUTravis, fart call though. LOL

Do you think they have a pen full of deer with some hourly worker waiting for the next new sound to come out?

I've called in and shot 2 P & Y class bucks with the aid of the can. One was on accident while trying to get the attention of a different buck chasing a doe. While watching him and using the can I heard something and the 130ish 11 pointer came trotting in and I shot him at 15 yards. The other the next year on again about a 130" 8 pointer. That one was with a grunt call. They work try, not every time as in any calling, but they do work.
As far as the growl goes, I've heard it and would never have named it a growl or roar. It sounds more like a very loud cow bawl. I heard it last year and didn't know what it was until i saw the deer making it. The guy I was hunting with heard it also and had never heard it before either. 5 bucks were running a doe and the SMALLEST of the 5 was making the sound. I won't buy one, but I have heard it. I just don't know what it would do for calling a deer in. I think the Drury's are in the business to make money and they know how to sell stuff!
