Dunno what is going on with my desktop PC.
It hung up and I had to hard boot it.
When it came back on it went into checkdisk and deleted a few "corrupted files".
Now it went thorugh a "recovered orphan files".
That took about ten minutes.
Now it seems OK.
Any ideas what happened?
Time for a new PC?

Who knows what evil lurks inside those things!
Mine had worms a couple years ago. It didn't scoot on the floor, but the little cupholder built into the case slid out all by itself, while I was trying to get the screen to show me something I could understand. The wife said to reboot it, so I did, but should have put my shoes on first! Darned things are heavier than they look! Thought my big toe was broke! Good luck with yours!

If you were to get more problems like that, I would reload XP. There are some series computer nerds here that might have a smarter solution for you.

It does sound possibly like virus activity, do you have antivirus software and your definitions up to date?

I've got Norton Anti-Virus and it stays up to date. The PC seems to be working OK now. I did back up the important stuff like the Hunting Indiana files. .

Anti-virus software up-to-date is great, but really not enough by itself. There are all kinds of little things that can be sand in the gears. An easy way to handle it for us old fogeys is to also use Windows One-care. . About $40, it will clean and repair everything, registry, adware, orphans you name it. The registry cleaner is really important, it is the PC equivalent of cleaning your fuel injectors. Just do a search for it,free trial. From Windows, it is safe

Not saying this caused your problems, but downloading AdAware and Spybot (both are free, do a search to find them) will do wonders for removing a LOT of adware and spyware. We've had both for a while now and they *always* find things when we run them.
Download both, install, open them up, update both (definitions are updated regularly) and then run them. They are both easy to use. If you surf a lot of different sites, you should have these programs!

What does the Adware Spybot do to email? You know the Bass Pro, Cabala's, Sportsman's Warehouse emails?

I had not ran my Adaware or Spybot in quite awhile.
I just ran them.
Adaware found 100 "problems" and Spybot found 50 "problems'.
All "fixed" now.

AdAware and Spybot do not do anything to your emails. Both programs only scan your hard drive. Unless you have a Windows based email program that saves things to your hard drive, email won't be affected.

I ran Ad-Ware and found a bunch of stuff-it said it quarantined lots-what do I do now that I`ve identified them? What about the quarantined files? Delete them?

I think my adaware just fixes the "problems".. no "quarantine" involved.... or maybe that was spybot?
