The Bloomington Herald newspaper reports that on Jan. 31, a Whitehall resident witnessed a black panther killing 6 pigs at 4 a.m. The homeowner has pictures of the pigs with deep slashes in them. They weighed ~50 pounds apiece. The cat was viewed from ~20 FEET and was described to be larger than the homeowners German Shepherd with coal black fur, long, and slinky. Other big cats have been reported in the area for years. Last Spring there were many cougar reports in an arc from North of Bloomington to Southwest of Ellettsville the paper reports.

Now there's a scary thought to have in your head while you're walking to your stand in the dark ! It's probably someone's escaped "pet" that's reverted to it's wild state , having dangerous critters like that for "pets" ought to be illegal .

This is my neck of the woods. We have had reports for years.. I had an experience but only shared it with a DNR guy and one friend... Didn't want to be lumped in with all the other nut cases that also see little green men and such.... Wish somebody would get a picture!

There is a video floating around adams county of a black cat too. My buddies dog got attacked in front of his eyes, and his brother got a shot at it, but missed. So far about 20 people have seen it since October. DNR told him, if you see it kill it, and call us.

Keith - you're among fellow nut cases and friends here, so tell us your story... (the little green guy on my shoulder made me type that...)
Seriously, sounds like an escapee from one of the big cat rescue outfits located around Bloomington... time to find somebody with some hounds and git 'er done....

A pic would be good, even a plaster mold of the prints and the pics to show where they were located. One killed on the road, shot by a deer hunter, treed by coon hunters, caught in a trap by a trapper.

I hope it's not killing all them wild hogs running around down there. DNR probably released it for just that purpose. That may make a good rumor. Hey guys did anyone hear that the DNR released and black panther last summer to eradicate the wild hogs in southern Indiana?

Hey guys did anyone hear that the DNR released and black panther last summer to eradicate the wild hogs in southern Indiana? Yep... it was supposed to be super top secret.. After the black panther gets done with the hogs then the DNR will release the grizzly bears to get those panthers. Big foot is next to take care of the grizzlies. What takes care of Bigfoot.? Why cloned T Rexs, that's what.. What takes care of the T Rexs? Why crossbowers thats who.. It is all a top secret plant to legalize crossbows.

I've often heard about sightings, mountain lions and black panthers both, in the area where I grew up also. I've never heard of a black color phase of mountain lion, but jaguars do have a black color phase and were known to inhabit most of Mexico at one time. It is not inconceivable that these could actually be the infamous "black panthers".
