If you had to pick one Indiana county, which would you say has the greatest numbers of big bucks? I'll post my choice later as I don't want to bias anybody's choice.

Without doing the research it would have to be one of the mid to southern counties with a mix of hilly timber, agricultural, and a river basin.

Swizterland County then Jefferson Countya close second.
But every county has them so in all reality it doesn't matter. The two counties I listed above are based on harvest figures, or the after the fact. If it was from my own experiences it would be a totally different answer Because I have seen just as many and bigger than what has already been taken out of them counties.

I think most of the big bucks are around Newburgh.

My vote..............Parke. I do a lot of work in this county and some hunting. Let me tell you they have got it all for monster bucks...Genetics, great crops, large expanses of timber and a lot of farmers that are eager to kill every doe in sight, and rough ground to discourage the weekend warriors from trekking to far from their trucks.

Guys every county in Indiana has the potential and currently has some large bucks that would rock the record books. They are just harder to hunt in some other counties. Just like here in North east Arkansas the swamp I hunt a hunter found a shed typical antler that the one side scored 137 inches it had 7 1/2 inches circumfurance 31 inch main beam and the g2 was 14 1/2 inches this shed had 7 points typical. Now if the other antler was clsoe to the same this buck would have score 277 inches gross and not included the inside spread for a typical. Dang that buck typical could knock out several non typicals. The area this shed was found is bowhunting only and some very rough swampy terrian to hunt. But the point is most of these extremely large rack bucks die of natural causes. I would say easily 99.9% of them do. But to get a chance at one you need to quit doing what everybody else is doing and throw something at a buck of this caliber something he has never experienced before. Because he is wise of all of the other tricks. This is why I am what is called a uncontvental hunter, I rarely do what everybody else in the area is doing. Most of the time I hunt the most unlikely cover or terrian features that show very little deer sign before deer season starts. Every hunter wants to hunt areas with alot of deer sign and when the pressure is on these big bucks change patterns very quickly and usually seek refuge in this areas. I spend very little time scouting before season and spend more time looking for terrain features and understanding how everyone else is hunting the area. I do not fight for a hunting spot if someone else is already hunting the area the chances are not to good to see a big buck so move on to a differnet area. My hunting method can change in the next minute that is how flexible I am. This is why alot of hunters do not like hunting with me. Because the I might change the game plan at any minute just like a big buck does. If you are out scouting now and hanging stands you are already wasting alot of your time because you have already let you opponet know the game plan before game day. Yes some times a big buck does fall under these tactics but the odds are slim. It does not matter where I hunt I will always get the chance at a buck above 140 class before the season ends. But everybody has a Archille's heel and my is getting over and controlling buck fever which means I blow the shot more times than I connect.

There are no deer in Martin county let alone bucks or big bucks. Number 10 should have been MARION county instead. It's the best kept secret in the state.

Apparently, everyone in my home county that hunts with a bow and takes a nice buck does enter them in the records. Still it is hard to believe given that the gun only hunters outnumber the bowhunters several times over.
