Life In The Open
This week's episode of the TRCP's Life In The Open takes viewers to South Dakota in search of stout white-tailed deer and to Saskatchewan for toothy northern pike – caught on flies.
Host Ken Barrett's first stop is in south-central South Dakota, where he stalks trophy white-tailed deer on an abandoned farmstead. While crossing rolling hillsides, rifts and ravines, the hunters, while blending into the autumn terrain, eventually sight the ideal quarry. But will it see them too?
The episode's second stop comes after a float-plane ride to Saskatchewan, where shallow glacial bays create both ideal habitat for large northern pike and good opportunities for fly fishermen. Viewers see TRCP President Matt Connolly and author Chris Dorsey hooking in and holding on as the spotted pike flash their broad sides and thrash in combat.
Each week the TRCP's Life In The Open takes viewers to many of the best hunting and fishing destinations in America, including some trips down Theodore Roosevelt's old hunting trails. Through the show, the TRCP seeks to draw American sportsmen into asking themselves "What would Teddy do?" and inspire them to act in a manner worthy of his conservation legacy. The show, like the TRCP itself, is inspired by Theodore Roosevelt's love of adventures in the outdoors, or, as he called it, "life in the open."
The TRCP's Life In The Open airs Sundays on OLN at 10:30 a.m. Eastern, Mondays at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. For more information, please visit
