Move to higher ground, place an airstrike on the leves and let nature take its course. Why on eaarth would you build a city in a hole! ( Leave it to the French!) Get everyone out and let the ocean reclaim it. You can still have the ports just have to move the city....... Sound simple enough but I am sure it isn't.
Its gonna cost us big time no matter where they build.

Very tough question to answer with all of the logistics involved. Common sense tells you not to build structures & below grade infrastructure below sea level in a flood plain. Will common sense overcome politics with this issue? I think not. We will all be forced to bite the bullet with across-the- board price increases on many consumer items as a result of this tragic event.

Saw a piece on Nightline or 20/20 last night regarding deterioration of the salt marshes... at the rate they're disappearing, NO will be facing the sea by end of this century. Expert indicated that even if they built a new series of walls/levees, if the marshes aren't restored, it wouldn't matter in the long run. >:(The real tragedy is that they've known about the inability of that system to deal with an F3+ storm since as far back as 1991, and the Corps has always been turned down for funding. Last estimate in 2002 was $2.5B, which looks like chicken feed now... By the time they get things pumped out, I think a lot of people will have moved to other areas and will never come back... it'll be like the old silver mine ghost towns out west, only on a grand scale... Makes 9/11 look like nothing in comparison... KD
