Wow, When Woody put the poll up about the NRA members I thought it would be a ton of people voting. I'm not sure if I am shocked, disappointed or confused! But I am sure that I am very curious about those of you that are NOT members of the NRA and why? Not for argument but more for my own enlightenment as to why you would choose not to join?..........

Gundude - I was an NRA member for many years and still believe in their cause. However I bailed on them a couple years ago due to their constant harrassment and badgering for additional money. I'll bet I was getting a piece of junk mail every week and a couple phone calls a month. All with the same pitch .... "send us money, before they take our guns".
Wrote letters to them, complained when they called, but it did no good. Told them I'd pay double the dues, if they would quit the solicitation. All that expense of junk mail and telephone work they wasted on me and countless others could have been dollars used to fight the cause.
I now belong to Safari Club International and The Izaak Walton League which are both good, pro gun, sportsmans organizations which fight the same fight, without harrassing me for more money all the time.

Same thing here, just get sick of being hounded and try to make you feel guilty for not giving more. Sort of like AARP. Spend way to much trying to get more.

I belong to the NRA and have for some time.
I also give some to the NRA-ILA.
The NRA-ILA is the one that asks for money all the time. It takes a lot of money to get done what they do. I understand and appreciate that.
The soliciations that I don't really care for are the ones that come in the form of a "survey". They ask a lot of simple questions that they KNOW what your answer will be and then end up asking for money.
Basically they are insulting my intellignce by doing the survey.
I would rather they just send me a letter asking for $50 and be done with it.
I'll support the NRA and the NRA-ILA as I think it is my duty to do that as they are the main barrier against the gun grabbers..

The AARP is very supportive of the liberal agenda, including gun control.

I'm a Life Member of the NRA and have been for quite some time, and I own the book Guns, Crime, and Freedom. ;D I like guns for shooting and hunting, and I want to be able to hand mine down to family and/or loved ones when I die, so that is much of the reason why I support the NRA. People in the future should be able to enjoy the same things I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy. BTW, I'm also for smart growth, so huntable land will also be available in the future.

Folks who and moan about the solicitation give me a pain. So what pay your damn dues and throw the rest on the trash can then it will not bother you! Read the articles in the magazines and skip the political sections. Yea the NRA could be better but then what could not be better? Darn near every thing thats what. The NRA is the only thing we have to keep the anti gunner wolves away from the door. I write my anti gun WI State Senators all the time Kohl and Feingold about anti gun issues. The letters I get back are always we will think of your comments when we vote bullcrap never we agree with you as they do not. If it was not for the NRA and its lobbiest we would have more gun laws or maybe gun bans or no guns by now. Yet the average hunter and gun owner in this country has his head up his butt and does not belong to any pro gun organisation wether it be the NRA or GOA or what ever group the numbers show that yet they benifit those of us who pay our dues and allow the NRA to keep fighting. Yea they are not perfect and some of the things they do anger those who figure they are too moderate and others think they are too gung ho so go figure? ?? I am on SS disability yet I pay my dues every year and yea I hate the pleas for more money as I have a hard time sometimes paying the dues but dig it up some how. Like I said pay your dues and ignore the rest if you want to that is easy enough to do and then quit your complaining. What is Iraq and Afganistan costing us??? Wars cost money to fight and make no mistake about it we are in a war to keep our guns. Its pay now and keep them or do not pay and loose them later. The UN wants to disarm every country so not only do we have to worry about the gun grabbers here but from other nations as well.

Just a thought if you look at the number of folks who own guns in the US and how many are members of pro gun groups and cut that percentage down to the members of this forum you probably will not get that many replies as you want, as they have their heads in the sand until their guns get threatened again. Every time a major gun bill hits the scene membership grows in these pro gun organisations then after they drop out again not caring it cost money too keep the pro gun fight going all the time. Or they do not care at all figureing their guns will never be taken away. Tell England and Australia and now somewhat Canada that!

jh45gun,
I think you hit the nail on the head there.
Apathy, because we all think it will never happen here.
The "true believers" of gun banning will never stop.
I'm sending in my renewal to the NRA this week. I've been a member for over 30 years.
