I recently purchased an 05 4-wheel drive Colorado. It justs so happens that it gets about 4 mpg better fuel mileage than my old sonoma does. That is not really a factor in my decision to buy it, just a pleasant surprise. The fuel efficient cars are all well and good until it comes time to get somewhere through a significant snowfall. Or haul a deer to a check-in station.
I find it funny when people bash "gas guzzling" vehicles all the while driving their "energy efficient" vehicle 3-4 times as far everday as the gas guzzler.

Gas was $3.20/gallon in Chicago last week. I saw an interview with a guy who had a van for his business, and it cost him over $100 to fill it up.

Yep, prices are high but I don't see anyone modifying their driving habits. I travel 20+ miles one way to work and at 60 MPH I still can't pass anyone or beat them off the line when the light turns green. I guess for the most part the high prices are just something to complain about. I paid close to these prices when I was in Europe in the early 70s. The US has had it to good to long and we're just spoiled.

You are correct Kevin.
You hear people all the time complaining that "the big oil comapnies are just putting the screws to us". I simply don't believe that is the case.
This world has a limited supply of petroleum, and a whole bunch of folks that want it. Basic supply and demand economics.
We need to quit using so much of the dang stuff.

I have heard of people making their own bio diesel at home for 70 cents a gallon. going to check on that. I drive a 96 dodge 1 ton 4x4 with the cummins.I have tweeked the motor some and it will run and still get 16-18 mpg. Dad bought a 03 1 ton 4x4 with the cummins 6 speed and that thing runs good and still gets 21 mpg. but it still dont pull as good as the ole 96 with the 12 valve. I think a miny van with a 4 cylinder diesle turbo wuold be a great family vehicle. Does anyone out there have a Jeep Liberty with the diesle in it? If so please post about it. And the reason they raise the price of petro is because they can.

Better fill er up now. Between the long weekend coming up and this hurricane playing havoc in the gulf some of those refineries are going to shutdown. Wouldn't surprise me to see it jump another .25 cents any day.
It's amazing the profits the oil companies are boasting this year.

It went from $2.99 to $3.19 a gallon for 87 octane right before my eyes this morning. The lady was changing the price on the sign as I was filling up. I only paid $2.99 though. $32 for 10.7 gallons of gas....just ridiculous.

It gives me a good excuse for not mowing my lawn. If it continues to climb maybe I'll sell my riders and just mow a path from the road to the front porch.

410, just get 2 goats, one for the back and one for the front.
At lunch, I saw 3.19 at the new Circle K on Shadeland, and they're usually the cheapest in the immediate area.
