So I’ve never hunted doves before, but it was suggested to me last year as a really good time. I was drawn for a FWA dove hunt and I was just hoping for a few tips. I’m not even sure which end of the field I should pick when it’s my turn to pick a spot. I have decoys that were given to me, a spinner, a box of flickers, and a dozen clip on decoys. Not sure what I’ll clip them to, but I have them. Thanks in advance!

I hunted goose pond last year or 2 ago with Span870.
We got to the field quick and it filled up fast. If you can observe the fields a day or 2 before the hunt see if there is a normal flight path. If you pick a spot close to the parking area everyone will walk past you. There are stakes for each party and it filled up.
Make sure you follow the rules. CO did 100% check on the hunting fields.
Decoys didn't seem to make a difference. If the birds are there and hunters are banging the doves will be all over. They shine in low pressure spots but if you have them give it a shot

If there is water around, try to get as close as possible.

I have seen guys use patio table umbrellas without the canvas as decoy "trees". When scouting look for dead trees in the areas. Draw a spot near them if possible.

FWA areas have a Shotgun Shell max limit . Bring a wagon to put your gear in . Bring plenty of water and snacks that won’t get you thirsty .Wear a cap and Sunglasses to help you see the Birds . Doves like to hang out in dead trees or dead tree limbs . I learned this last year. Make yourself a cheap portable blind . ( I did a hunt last year and there was no cover in front of me to blend in . But also in front of me was a row of trees without any leaves where the Doves were hanging out from and in the middle of me and the Doves were the Sun Flowers and the birds didn’t want to fly in the sun flowers because they could see the hunters) .
HAPPY HUNTING and the BEST of LUCK
Stay Safe

My best tip I can give you is scout. Whether it’s a week or a day before, go drive around each field and get familiar with them. You will be so much more comfortable and confident if you know the area before the hunt. Good Luck and welcome to a very exciting hunting experience.

Shot myself a limit yesterday for the opener. The majority of them were either landing or did land in my decoys.

I got out last 2 mornings. Different spots Day 1 was 26 between 3 of us. Day 2 was 15 between 2 of us.
Day 2 was much more comfortable!
