Well once again the ole boy pitched down and crossed the road behind my house. Spent Monday and Tuesday trying to coax one into the field with no luck.
Been a tough couple of weeks, lost my neighbor who sold me my ground and lost my other neighbor who I took hunting all the time last year. Had to get his replacement hip worked on Monday, talked to him Monday and Tuesday evening and was very upbeat then went into cardiac arrest at 2 this morning and never recovered.
He always told me to keep at it and never give up cause things can change in seconds. Sure gonna miss my hunting buddy. I'll be chasing em again in the morning.

My condolences huntsemall. Its tough to lose a friend, especially a buddy that you've shared times with hunting.
Go kill a big 'Ol Gobbler in his name!

Sorry to hear that. You better do as requested and keep after them. Bust a big ole Tom in his name.

I'm in the woods for 2 hours sitting in a slightly different spot hoping to catch them traveling to their roosts. I'm sitting near where I heard the tom a few days ago, and where I've sometimes seen them roost. It's a bottleneck between the creek and the field and there's a thick bit of brush around here. About 15-20 yards behind me is a creek branch. They may follow the creek branch and come up through here, or at least go through the thick stuff. I've been hearing stuff out in the field that could either be turkeys or a distant dog, as there is a house in that direction. The sounds are probably 300-400 yards off. Unfortunately it also seems to be across the creek branch which is a pain to cross due to steep banks and other things.

I saw one going across an open field at about 120 yards away and I could see his beard swaying side to side with every step it took. If I get a chance I'll set up where it went into the woods. Maybe Saturday. This was 6pm Central last night.

The owners live at the north end of Scales Road up by the interstate. Yeah, they let them run except during deer season when they put them up. Maybe it's time to start trapping coyotes. Tell the owners that you are trapping and see what happens. I know if I catch a collared coyote it's a trophy!!

I have never turkey hunted but my son wants to give it a go. Got a blind, a couple decoys, and have had him pattern his gun. When you go out in the morning about how long before sunrise do you like to be set up?

I have never turkey hunted but my son wants to give it a go. Got a blind, a couple decoys, and have had him pattern his gun. When you go out in the morning about how long before sunrise do you like to be set up? Legal time is a half hour before sunrise. In my area sunrise is 5:51 AM CST.I would try and be in the blind no later than 4:45 am cst. So an hour before sunrise is good. Walk in when it is dark. Do not use a flashlight. Good luck and have fun making memories! PS.. be sure and post your adventures here!
