Am considering moving to one of these counties, and was hoping somone could tell me what the hunting is like there. Also how is the housing market and employment market in these counties as well. Gary Hi Gary, I don't know much about Greene County; but I grew-up in Daviess County. At this point-in-time I understand that the economy isn't that Great in Daviess County. When I lived there, the economy was not that bad but many of the factories and other businesses have moved out, most likely to Mexico. Farming remains the main industry in Daviess. As for Hunting; back when I was growning up in the late '50's and '60's the best hunting was Rabbits, Quail, and Squirrels. There were very few Deer there in the '50's & '60's. Infact, I saw my very first Whitetail, in Indiana, back in 1969!! I am certain there are more Deer today, but as for hunting them there; I really haven't heard much talk about how the hunting is concerning Deer. I know there aren't as many Rabbits or Quail, but Squirrel Hunting is not too bad. Pehaps, someone here could fill you in on the success rates and where to hunt in Daviess County.

Green county has the Green/Sullivan State forest, Minni is just down the road and Hillabrand just south of Jasonville. You can hunt deer, turk's and waterfowl at any of them.

I currently live in Washington in Daviess County. Housing market is definitely a buyer's market, although we just sold our house last October. Job market is lousy! I work in Vincennes. A relatively short trip, but with gas prices these days ... Deer hunting is not bad, but a lot of the good ground is being eaten up by coal mines and the rest seems to be already spoken for. Rabbits weren't bad this year, and we almost always have plenty of squirrels (doesn't seem to be that many squirrelhunters anymore). If you are retired, it is not a bad area to move to.

The job market sucks in Greene County unless you want to drive 45 min to Terre Haute or Bloomington. The deer hunting is good in the Green/Sullivan State forest in bow season, duck hunting is good in the Goosepond fish wildlife area and Turkey hunting seems good everywhere. This area has so much to offer in outdoor recreation, its a great place to live and raise kids, just not many ways to make a living. If you move to Greene county I can point you to some good spots in the state forest.

Beehunter, I will second that on the job market sucks, I make the 50 min drive to Terrible Hoot everyday. I drive to Terre Haute every day also, a long commute is part of living in the area. Retiredmn1 the job markets are better in the larger towns but there are still not alot of jobs, to many of the large factories have closed down. What kind of job aer you looking for?

anything I can get. I am willing to even learn something new. After I retired from the Navy, I went into furniture sales, for a year before moving to Michigan. Have not worked at all since moving here in Aug 2006.

Have not worked at all since moving here in Aug 2006. "retiredmn1", They built a new "super" Wal-Mart south of Washington at the intersection of HWY 57 & US-50. You might find a job there; but as to where you might find another type I haven't a clue. You might even look for something in Vincennes, as it is a larger city. <Good Luck to you!>

I'm waiting for info from sr71 about Crane. Probably won't be able to get a job there though since I had my security clearance revoked while I was on active duty.

Don't forget all of the contract companies that support Crane.
Greene Co is an outdoorsman's paradise.

Don't know much about the area but heads up for new Interstate-69 to come through both counties. Probably something to look for in picking a house or hunting location.
