3 years ago on a piece of HNF, I saw a bobcat in a dry lake bed pounce on and catch a quail. He then sat there for 7 or 8 minutes batting it back and forth and throwing it up in the air. Really cool to watch.
I also had one in October walk a saddle top at eye level with me 10 yards away. He had no clue I was there.
I have both encounters on video.

My first experience with the wild world of the woods was Dad taking me out deer hunting and sitting on the edge of an old strip mine freezing my little 12 year old butt off watching and praying for the sun to hurry up and rise so it could warm me up. As dawn was breaking the silence was pierced by a cardinal flying the length of the strip just a tweet every 10 to 15 feet. As soon as it went through it was like the woods woke up, I started hearing other birds and rustling in the leaves. I was wanting to ID every sound to confirm it was/wasn't a deer. I didn't truly think the cardinal was the wood's alarm clock until it did the same thing the next day. At that moment I thought "wow, that's pretty cool " One more outdoor story, this one's ot hunting related but still cool. When my brother and I were young we'd go play at the neighbors house down the road, we'd play till after dark. Well on the way back one nightthe lightning bugs were up and I looked out over the field across the road from our house and ALL of the lightning bugs lit up at exactly the same time. I thought there is no way that just happened. Come to find out it happens more than we think and it is written about. Pretty cool event.

Fall creek in Fort Ben. Directly across the river from that green spot in the back, I bumped half a dozen deer when I was scouting last month. I planned to hunt here until I saw bull winkle on the other end of the park. I sat here for almost an hour just staring into the water.

Here's something you don't see every day while deer hunting. Yes that's a snapping turtle on the move.

That reminds me. One year hunting HNF about middle of the day early archery I hear this weird sound below me. Sounded like something moving the dried leaves but couldn’t see anything. Well after a bit of studying and staring in the direction of the sound I finally saw it. A 4’ ish long black snake. lol. Thought about arrowing him but would’ve been directly straight down and I don’t like that shot. I’d probably miss him anyways.
