I totally get they have a job and appreciate what they do, but to walk right thru the big part of a woods opening morning at 8:00 is pretty rediculious a d just screws the people who are doing things the right way

It amazes me that people complain about poaching and trespassing yet dont want a CO on their property unless they give them permission.
I guess it boils down to wanting the law enforced at your convenience.

Department of Natural Resources conservation officers have full police powers as any state, city or county police officer. They can enforce all Indiana laws including speeding, stop signs and driving while intoxicated.

Unless there is credible suspicion of illegal activity, chasing a feller out of his stand on opening day is not something that I agree with. I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

It seems to me that the officers could just check them in as they drive thru the gate. Seems to me that would be way more efficient. They could and should check them on thier way out as well. A post it note on the dash as they were checked in so when they leave the next officer sees that and dosnt have to be as thorough with the check out.

That would make sense but remember they are state employees and getting up and starting work at 4 or 5 am is not the normal. Most will never start working that early and most likely why they are walking in the woods at 8am.

Those guys are working around the clock in shifts. Especially this time of the year!! SMH

Sounds dangerous to me. There are usually enough complaints on opener to keep them busy for a week. Maybe he was looking for someone is all I can figure. I wouldn't have been real happy with the guy

Frustrating for sure, but they have every right to be there doing that, especially on public land. I've never been checked while deer hunting, however last year our group was checked during a Willow Slough pheasant hunt. We saw the officers from across the field, but we were zeroing in on a pheasant in the Wwoodline and the officers were respectful and didn't approach us until we had tried our luck at the pheasant and were closer to them.

Have a DNR officer that checks around one of our public waterfowl areas. Really cool guy. As he’s checking us if birds are seen he will duck down and hide so we can shoot em. He’s a talker and has given us some good places to try. I really like the guy, he’s real respectful and friendly. Those type get the same treatment back from me. I will respect others as well but if they are creeps then they don’t get as much respect.

My wife has a shirt that says, “I match energy, so how we gonna act today?” And I think that is a pretty good way to carry yourself 😂

We were out in the middle of a 100 acre field one winter. Thigh deep snow, we took a snowmobile out there to dig pits in a ditch and set up goose decoys. We were doing great and saw the sheriff parked at the side of the road with binoculars. 20 minutes later the DNR shows up and the guy walked out to us, a good 1/2 mile through the deep snow. He was cool, even jumped down into the pit with one of us when a flight of honkers decided to look us over. He jumped too hard and went knee deep through the ice in the ditch into the water.
He said someone called the sheriff because they thought somebody wrecked the sled (it was parked a good 1/4 mile away from the pits) and the sheriff called him.
I view it as no different than a hunter walking through the woods. It's part of hunting on public ground.

I bet SOLID money the ICO had suspicion in that area illegal activity was occurring, and as a good officer he will of course check any and all along the way but likely was looking for one specific person or situation.
ICOs are short handed and to be walking around on opening morning I suspect would not be done without a precise reason being associated with such an action.
AND any ICO worth their badge, isn't going to divulge or give that away to someone, as for all they know that would tip another off.
