Steep learning curve here for using a crossbow for the first time. My previous post I asked a suggestion on scopes. I went ahead and went with a single dot red dot I had on my turkey gun. Sighted dead on at about 28 yards, I'm good out to 40.
My next 2 questions, can these things be quieted down any? With my bow, string silencers and cable stops. What do you guys suggest to make it any quiter.
Broadhead choices. Is there a difference between crossbow and regular bow heads? Anyone have any suggestions for a good fixed blade? I'm shooting 400 grain bolt.

This is my first year even owning my own crossbow, but the ten point I have is COVERED in little rubber stoppers and silencers and dampeners. I’d say it’s pretty quiet. I have 100 grain muzzy Broadheads and they shoot great.

For what it’s worth, we shoot regular G5 mechanicals outta our crossbows and they function just fine. I do need to buy the dampening system for our ten point crossbows, but they still kill deer.

What weight arrows are you flinging? Heavier arrows will help make it quieter as well as preserving the life of the bow and I think we all know heavy arrows are generally more lethal. Unless you are shooting further than say 40 yards on game, I really think the noise is more a bother to the shooter than to the game.

Does that include your broadhead? If so and it were my bow, I would bump the total arrow weight up by at least 50 grains. You may be able to achieve this with heavier broadheads which will also improve your FOC.

Regular muzzy 3 blade for years. I tried a rage crossbow mechanical one time. I hit a doe in the shoulder at 20 yards from the ground. Almost no penetration and the arrow flopped out when she ran off. Only found a couple drops of blood. There's no doubt a muzzy would have killed her.

You sure the bare arrow is 400gr? If so, good deal. It must have a brass insert, if so again, good deal. The more FOC the better, to a point.
No difference in bow/x-bow broadheads. A Slick Trick is about impossible to beat, but Muzzy is good, and Cut on contact look at Mangus Stinger or Buzzcut.
Mechanical good ones are Spitfires or Ramcats.

Yes. It's 400gr. Specifically went with a heavier, front of arrow weight after researching problems people had with limbs exploding. What I gathered, a lot was caused by shooting too light of an arrow. I'm using carbon express bone crusher. At the distance I'm sighted in, -40 yards, I don't need any great speed. Even that said, I can't see the bolt in flight.

So, 20" arrows are 442 grains with 100 grain points, 22" are 479 grains with 100 grain points. Not too shabby. I do not know what the FOC is for these arrows, you might be able to go to a 125 or 150 grain broadhead and have a better hunting arrow.

Only reason I shoot 150 grain Slick Tricks is because they quit making the 170 grain before I bought broadheads for the crossbow.

Can't imagine I could do any better within 40 yards range. Just so dang loud compared to my hoyt. Maybe it's just me. Them bolts do launch outta there right now even at that weight. I went with 100 grain because that was the weight of my field point and broadheads I had.

I think your arrow setup is good to go and I wouldn't worry about the noise, last thing that deer will hear before it goes down for the count!
