We hunted a place several years ago and had it to ourselves. The farmer let us in all 300 of his acres. He was a dairy farmer and only thing he asked was please don’t hunt in the fields were my cattle is. No problem. Had plenty of other places on his land to hunt. Anyways one day he told us a guy had been doing some work for him around his house and asked permission to hunt deer. He being a nice guy said sure help yourself and gave him the same rules he gave us. Well. Didn’t take long for us to realize he had taken some of the farmers salt blocks and put them in front of our stands we had up (he was helping himself yo our stands) which at the time not such a big deal but one day he tried to kick my brother in law out of his own stand. We took the salt blocks back to the fields and he confronted us about doing that. Told him it’s illegal. Didn’t like that answer. Cussing us out. He really started becoming a nuisance to us by driving in the fields when we were hunting as he saw our vehicles parked out front. We surely didn’t want to lose our rights to hunt so one day we went to the farmer and told him everything. He ended up booting the other guy but at some point the other guy got back on the property and shot one of his cows. Got game and fish involved and he ended up confessing and paying a pretty good sized fine. We were able to hunt there for another 9/10 years until he died and they sold the place off in sections. I miss that place.

Nov 27, 2018 in Ask the CO forum Asked: "Two hunters both hunt on private land that shares a property line. The first hunter places a stand along the property line facing his land. If the second hunter creates a mineral site along his side of the property line 10 feet from the first hunter's stand, would this mean the first hunter is hunting over bait? In other words, can a land owner render a property line "unhuntable" by placing salt blocks along it and prevent his neighbor from legally hunting it?"
Morrison answered:
If this situation were to arise, I would recommend the first hunter contact the local Conservation Officer. This would demonstrate the first hunters lack of involvement in the placing of the salt blocks.
The placing of the salt blocks by the second hunter (land owner) would not typically make the property of the first hunter unhuntable.

I went out behind the house last night to check my trail cam. I noticed the mineral blocks were still out (the hunter has been hunting over them by his own admission). I called the landowner since clearly the hunter was not going to. The landowner was very attentive to the issue at hand and seemed to now understand the baiting laws. He assured me that he was going to address it immediately and have the mineral blocks removed. I didn't ask him who put them out because in the end, it really doesn't matter.
I'm still on the fence on whether or not I even want to hunt back there this season. I definitely won't be hunting those woods but, I will have a difficult time convincing myself to hunt the field also.

Me? I’d hunt there..
Once the blocks are removed I’ll bet the poacher will move on.

I'd hunt the woods, staying on the property that you can hunt on and not give it a 2nd thought.
