Saw my first deer of the day just now.
A little spike walked past me on the trail!
The rut is still ON! Yea!

Nothing further for me since earlier this morning with the big buck and coyote. Well, did have a guy walk in on me at 9:15 which seems par for the course at these park hunts.

I killed mine yesterday near north vernon. I was out 6 times this year between nov.1 and yesterday, trying to pick the best days wind and weather wise. My totals each days for seeing deer were 0,0,1,3,6 and 4 yesterday. I never seen one deer acting like it was the rut. All does I seen were casually walking alone. The 4 bucks I seen none were in a rush or moving with a purpose. The one bigger one I seen last Sunday could care less about a bleat, grunt or rattle. The big one I killed yesterday was moving with a little purpose and stopped and worked a scrape.
Although in my area in 8 years I have only seen two bucks actually chasing does unfortunately both were the two biggest I have seen out there and could t get a shot at either.

As soon as I finished typing I had another really good buck and an unknown deer come in behind me. It’s so thick it’s hard to even see them let along get a shot off.

Got my regular buck for the season yesterday. I had my bow in hand and was going to shoot this yearling doe that I had seen Saturday and that had been milling around for 15 minutes when I saw a bigger deer coming down the next ridge over on a trail that could bring him close. For some reason he froze behind some brush and didn't move for about a minute. It was right when the thermals starting drifting down hill so maybe he caught a whiff? Then he started walking away out of sight so I went to hang my bow up and a couple of deer blew behind me and took off. I didn't even know they were there. He came back around about 5 minutes later and came in to a little under 30 but I couldn't get a clear shot. He wandered back towards the way he came to about 60 yards then came back and decided to harass the yearling, giving me a hard quartering away shot at about 32. I almost shot that yearling on Saturday right at the end of shooting light but had something to do that evening so I didn't want to deal with her. Found him about 150 yards from the shot.

I'm working this week and have a party on my wife's side Saturday afternoon so no opening gun. I plan to be there Sunday and Monday to get a doe if one shows up. Nobody misses opening day of firearms. No one. Unless, of course, you are tagged out.

Got me a big mama this morning. More meat in the freezer. Deer running all over this morning. I lost count at 25. Nice eight again wouldn’t come in. Was right on tail of a doe.

Well, there he is, got him in the truck out the gate. Going to get him hung up and might go out tonight at my place. Came in by himself around 7:45est. 350 legend, went 20 yards. I’ll be honest, I seen 6 doe and 4 bucks and only shot this guy. I know it’s a park hunt, but I only wanted one deer and he was the first one I seen. Hung around for 3 hours in my stand to not disturb because shots were going off all over and I like to watch.

Hope to get an Indiana doe for the team.
