From reading the DNR Facebook screenshot someone sent me, half the state thought gun season opened yesterday. Lol! That's a crock of BS. Not surprised tho. Probably give all the morons a bozo button and tell them good job. 😡 We heard several rifle shots in prime time. Doubt they were sighting in with one shot.[/quote Heck, if I was sitting with a rifle my bundle would be full between today and yesterday......

Went out for an afternoon hunt. Got up in stand, and thought, "that rock wasn't there before" in a small opening in brush. Well the "rock" was a forkie's back. Then 20 minutes later a deer comes towards me. It slowly gets closer and and closer, as it eats. Looked like a doe. Once I get an open area I shoot. Well looking for it was easy, but get up to it and became thankful that button bucks in IN are counted as antlerless because it was one of those that looked EXACTLY like a doe until I got up and took a look! I've shot one or two others over the years. One was my first deer, one was also mistaken for a small doe. Still happy. Pics later when Internet is much better and paid for. That's ok! No shame in any deer taken, especially with archery. They taste great, and bring you enjoyment and a good experience.

Took the afternoon off rom hunting to be with family. However!!!, when I got down this morning, I found 2 huge, fresh scrapes about 60 yards from me east wind stand on the same big pin oak with a HEAVY trail heading in and out of them. I “freshened” them and went on my way. As the kids were all down napping and my wife was relaxing this afternoon, I figured I’d run down, sneak in, and put a cell cam over those scrapes. Of course I took my bow with me as my luck would be to have one of my shooters walk out as I’m hanging that cam. I got in an bumped two does that were bedded. They didn’t spook, just trotted off from my noise. Then as I’m getting the cam hung, I see two deer about 100 yards away in the CRP. One was a 90” 8 point that I’ve seen on 4 different sits now and the other was one of the million fork horns I have out there. They had no clue I was there. Got the cam hung and got out of there as to not spook any deer during prime time. We’ll see what the newly hung camera shows.

No additional deer seen tonight. Funny though, the little buck chased the doe right past me on the way out. I stood still, and they went by at about 10’.

Oh, and DNR had a table set up, taking CWD samples. Sure hope they don’t find that.

Obliterated left lung. Ran 30 yards and went down in the field behind me but I backed out cause I wanted to make sure of the property (learned tonight that it is part of the property, good to know), and wanted the kids in the family to have a little excitement with helping. Got him all hung up now, got to rest and eat then out to finish cleaning. By the way, your buck is awesome! They don't always come that wide!

I've done it before, my dad's done it before, and I know people who have done it as well. I can tell you, my first deer gave me horrible shakes, even though it was just a small button buck. I was on cloud nine for about, well, a month.

3 deer gauling butt through the woods north of me....could just see patches. But rifle shots going off on 3 sides.....wth? Are morons just now zeroing or are the farmers using predation permits? From reading the DNR Facebook screenshot someone sent me, half the state thought gun season opened yesterday. Lol! Guess they didn't read the regulations! I haven't been out much but haven't heard shooting either. And in our area, if you hear multiple shots, it's usually bird and waterfowl hunters.

I'm still on cloud 9! It's pretty cool to read that you got that excited over shooting a "doe". Lol! I do too. Any deer that I intend on shooting, I start getting excited right away. Congratulations again!

Got in my tree at 11 today. After hunting dawn to dusk Friday and Saturday I needed to sleep in. Plus today's wind direction didn't leave a suitable morning set up that wouldn't involve walking through deer in the field. Was hoping to see the buck from last night. Well at 4 o'clock I heard a deer coming in and she was bringing a couple smaller bucks with her. Then a bigger buck with half a rack runs the smaller bucks off and chases her around the woods. Had three does under me for a long while. Half rack comes back and stands at ten yards. If he would've had the other side I would've shot him but I'll keep waiting. Congratulations to all who had success today.

My evening sit consisted of hearing a ruckus off to my left around 5 o,clock. Grabbed my bow to get ready and the doe squirts out of the thicket and slips off quietly down the trail. About a minute later here he comes! The smallest fork horn you have ever seen. He lost the trail and circled back into the thicket twice. I chuckled to myself thinking I hope he is learning something from his failure. Reminded me of a young beagle pup just learning to trail a rabbit and over running the track because it is so excited. And that is why I love being out there.

I like the later start to gun season wish we would just keep it that way! Agree! From what I am reading here not only are there lots of deer out looking, but because there isn't loads of gun hunters in the woods, they are also far more relaxed. Which also means they will be more visible to those of us who do get in the woods for archery. Guess the only problem is now the DNR and maybe even other hunters need to educate those who don't pay lots of attention to the regulation changed that gun season is later.
