Had 2 button bucks, 1 doe, and one 8-point come through within range. At last light, had a giant come through 35 yards in front of me. Too dark to shoot. š This is becoming a trend and I donāt like it. Lol. Going to try to sneak into the same stand in the morning as the wind should be the same as tonight. Be patient friend, it will happen

Planning on going out in the morning but I will be traveling empty handed. My wife's uncle shot 2 doe back to back a few yrs ago and gifted 1 of them to me when I couldn't "buy" a deer. Figured it's time to pay it forward, so I'm on deer watching duty tomorrow to see if I can make his circle complete. May or may not do any good, but I'll be his wing man and do what I can do. Gonna sit where I got mine this morning and just maybe something will show up

Life has been getting in the way of extracurricular posting, but Iāve been out a few times since I was on here.
Shot a big doe and had tons of action last Sunday.
The greens in my food plots are absolutely torn from the previous 2 weeks. A few brassica tops are gone , so Iām guessing they will be next. Iāve only sat actually ON my food plot once this year. Iām pretty stoked for gun season ! Weather is shapIng up for some good growth in my cornfield broadcast planting this week before the gun season cold front follows.
I had the farmer leave me 3 rows of corn from tree line to tree line across the high point in the field. Should make for a good screen to use getting into my āhunting tentā as my 3.5 yo calls it. It is in line with the corn screen , nestled between two power line poles. Also just might be the emergency food source if we get a big snow / freeze. I also set up a tripod I bought for $50 a couple years ago but hadnāt put up yet in the tree line closest to the plot (parallel to standing corn) which will be accessed through the cut beans opposite side of the tree line.
Got a 140ish 10 point there , and a 125ish 10 point at a suburban creek bottom funnel spot both daylighting , but not quite regular. Itās good to see that 140 on my plot at last light , because that area typically holds the king of the castle from nov14th- dec 15th pretty consistently.
Congratulations to all of the awesome harvests I see you fellas have made already ! I plan to work my tail off the next 4-5 days to be able to really hunt hard once gun comes in. Might sneak in a couple 2-3 hour hunts this week, but we will see.
The season is still young š

Nothing for us. Kids were screaming and playing and riding quads next property over the entire time, even when we left in the dark. Oh well. We saw a large number of deer moving the entire 27 mile ride home. The deer waited for the lights to go out to get moving in our area. Slow action-wise for my local contacts. To the South or to the West? Surely not directly to the East. If to the East, they were 2 properties over and across the street.

About 3:00 (CST) I had this buck and another busted up buck chasing a doe all along the ridge top and down both sides. This went on for about 20 minutes. They finally went away from me and the woods went silent. No more grunting or crunching leaves. As I was trying to settle myself down from all the chaos. I heard some light foot steps coming my way. Out popped the doe going straight to my horizontal rub. The busted up buck came through behind her but, giving her a wide birth. I knew the 8 point had to be popping up any second. I heard a grunt and went ahead and settled in behind the crossbow. Just as I did, he stepped around the corner. I yelled "HEY" as I was setting the pin on his shoulder. He stopped and I squeezed the trigger. The lighted knock failed to light. I couldn't see the impact and immediately got a sick, nervous feeling in my gut. The buck lunged forward at the shot and turned after he passed a downed tree. I waited 25 minutes and just had to go check the impact sight. Found the bolt immediately and was very happy to see it soaked. I said a prayer asking for help in the recovery. I have backed out, called a couple buddies and went to my truck to off load my gear. We began tracking immediately and soon as we round the downed tree, white belly laying there at 40 yards. I couldn't be happier! Time to rest up and go see the Dr. about this pesky heart issue. Thanks for all the congrats! Congratulations to all the other successful hunters! Good luck everyone else! Hunt safe and God bless! Congrats, will you now go get that ticker looked at please?

Okay guys. It's almost 2:00 a.m. and I was tracking him and he got up ahead of me and was really struggling so I backed out. I guess I'll come back at daylight.

Hopefully if heās not dead when you get back to him youāll be able to finish him off and take him home. Theyāre some tough critters for sure.

This morning is more than likely the last day of archery for me, as I go back to work tomorrow. Things are way behind at work, so I'll probably be worn out trying to get things organized and caught back up. My season began last Saturday. Lol! I could hunt an hour and a half each day after work this week, but I doubt I mess with it. I would if it were firearm or muzzleloader seasons, as my odds increase enough to make it worth the effort. Good luck today, everyone!

I am heading to a new stand this morning. Still have Mon & Tues off work. Probably go duck hunting...I have enjoyed hunting the big farm though. Away from neighbors, no sign in and sign out, potential for nice deer, saw some quail yesterday. So maybe will go back Monday and duck hunt Tuesday so that I don't have a deer to mess with on the last day.
Bro-n-law is coming down last 4 days of gun season. It will probably be 100% doe patrol.

Heading out for our last try. Combo deer/skurry hunt, then confirm the gun zeros at longer range. Taking the afternoon off to rest up and goof around with the family before the fun starts next weekend.

Go back at daylight and find. Biggest issue and reason not to push is blood trail can be non existent once clots up. Liver hits are fatal, just takes little time.

Whats everyones trick for getting them out of the steep places. To steep for deer cart or 4 wheeler, and doing it yourself

I've yet to find the best way to recover a deer in steep terrain. I hunt the HNF in Perry County, and it seems like the deer here are part mountain goats. I carry a ratchet strap with me minus the ratcheting part and put it around the neck and make a loop to go around my chest and use the best path of least resistance

Iām here at this special gun hunt. Iāll be here for close to an all-day sit, unless I get one early. The hunt closes a little before dark.
Iāve got all sorts of gear and accessories dangling off the rail of my climber. Extra layers of clothes, bino harness, assortment of deer calls, thermos of coffee, in addition to my big backpack.
