Buddy from michigan got one this morning here at my property. A 9 point with a split brow on left side. The deer had just recently lost most of his back left leg. I had never seen the deer nor had any pics of him among my 4 trail cams i run. At first he thought it was my big 8 which was off limits. Thankfully it was not him. I seen 6 doe and a button buck. Headed out again here in a few.

Just seen our first for the day. The way it was acting leads me to believe it was a small buck cruising. It was in some thick stuff

Well I got finished settling in and ranging shooting lanes when here comes an 8 pt (I think he was an 8). He passes 50 yards in front at the closest. Funny, I had just grunted a bit when I heard him coming. Don't know if he was responding to the grunt call or not. I'm just hunting does though. Someone's orange cat also just went through on the hunt, and the squirrels are chewing. Great day to be out!

I hope that they are all in the thick stuff in my area. That is where I am.

Woodmaster had an 8 point come by. About 16" wide. No mass and short tines.. he got a pass.
Woodmaster went home for lunch as is going to hunt the food plot this afternoon. First time hunted this season.

I had a good hunt this morning - lots of deer, lots of chasing and grunting, just nothing real close to me. One of the bucks looked pretty decent running through the timber.
Came in at midday, made a meatloaf, and got ready for the Crane gun hunt tomorrow.
About to head back out now.

13 total deer this morning, 8 different bucks and last deer seen around 9:30 or so. Different woods this evening 1st time in this stand this season and it's thicker than Grandma's Gravey and full of scrapes and rubs. Hoping to maybe see the kind of action I seen this morning or harvest a mature buck.

Well here he is. Not much of a story other than the fact I had to stick him a 2nd time. 1st shot was in the vitals, but didn't expire him. After waiting 1.5 hrs I went on the search and ended up playing cat & mouse with the sun in his eyes. I was able to send another in his vitals and that did him in. Not sure if I hit a twig or what exactly went wrong, but I was as cool as a cucumber, had a steady rest, breathing under control and settled the scope on him. Congratulations!

Ready to go for the evening. As long as this wind stays northeast I’m good. If it moves straight east I’ll probably just head back in. Sitting behind the house tonight.

Sitting in a tree that hasn't been hunted in a couple of years. Hoping it's the right decision.

Haven't seen any deer since the buck a little over an hour ago. But evening is promising. Got some birds, etc messing around. The local turkeys were heard twice so far as well.

Well I'm not understanding the chain of events that took place with this buck. I shot dead center in the front left shoulder, ok it was definitely a forward shot but the exit wound was middle ribs on the right side with complete pass thru. Hit lung and liver but yet he didn't want to give up. Didn't have the "smell" of rut whatsoever, so I'm not sure where or how he got his drive to keep going.
All comments are most welcomed, but in my mind, I should not have had to make a 2nd shot to expire him.

I softly bumped him and watched him get up and quickly bed. 1 lung and liver is not quick.

Liver hits are nearly always fatal but usually take between 4-6 hours before dying. I’m no pro, just what I’ve observed. Since you got both he was hurt bad, but probably still would’ve lived a little while longer if you hadn’t got that second shot off. Good for you for doing that and ending it as quickly as possible.
