I'm still out in the new box blind area. Saw 1 doe on opposite ridge about 80 yards away. Leaving blind at 11am. It's been a beuitful calm to light wind in my face. Perfect except no close deer.

Fairly slow hunt for us. Very thankful for treestand umbrellas and the rain stopping before dark. We had a doe about 400 yards out in a cut corn field maybe an hour before dark. Saw a 4 point enter the field 150 yards away with maybe 25 minutes of legal light left. I figured nothing to lose so I grunted at him. He stepped a few yards closer and my daughter said to grunt again. He stood still maybe 2 minutes then came all the way across the field on a string with me calling ranges to her the whole time. When he got to 26 yards he stopped slightly quartering forwards and she let the bolt fly. The buck hauled tail back to where he entered the field. We got down and couldn't find any blood or the bolt. We zigzagged across the field in the fading light with our flashlights back to where we thought he entered the woods and still nothing. I had a bad feeling about heavy rains and morning searching when she said that she saw him. He made it just inside the woods before dying. The bolt went through the near shoulder, one lung, clipped the liver before exiting. Gut material plugged the exit hole. Not a drop of blood found between the shot site and him. Finally got him quartered and on ice. Rehabbing gear tomorrow. This is her last buck as a youth hunter. She was very excited. It's not her biggest buck, but it was a fun hunt. Congratulations to the young huntress!

Well it was good while it lasted. Rain moved in and we moved out. At least it waited until after 9 to start though, but still no deer movement up to that point

Pulled 4 trail cam cards. One cam had 1600 pics, mostly turkeys and 90% nighttime deer movement. No bucks even relatively close to shooter status. The other 3 cams had nothing. I need to see what I screwed up on one cam, the other 2 cuddeback cams are old and not working like they should. I will see if they can fix them or if I should just buy new ones. Here's what the pics look like from one of them. The other said "SD Full" but nothing on it.

All my malfunctions have been the data card or weak batteries.

Moved my cellular camera in the light rain this afternoon. I'm scheduled for vacation November 4-12, but thought about canceling. Now, less than a week from it, I'm thinking of finally taking my first deer season vacation ever. I've never taken off work to deer hunt before.
I've always felt guilty about taking time off work because I know that it will result in two guys being relocated to cover for me, and production will suffer as a result -- we're extremely busy right now. But, no one else in the mill feels any guilt taking time off, so why should feel bad? I went 25 years with perfect attendance, and only missed two days after that due to a Covid quarantine that I was well enough to have worked if allowed.

I do! I used to be super dedicated to the owner of my company, but he sold the company and retired back on January 1 of this year, and I just don't have respect for the new owner. I feel pretty unappreciated. I do most of the foreman's work and he gets the credit for it. Lol!

I had to realize that fact, too. They didn't even blink when I put my 2 weeks in. New job is much less demanding of my time. Enjoy your hunting vacation finally.

M4 take Duff's advice and use your time. It's all water under the bridge but I donated a fair amount of $ of unused days when I retired. In the big picture, life is short so make sure and take your time, do the things you really enjoy.....okay enough of being Dr. Phil!

Regardless of how us with great work ethics feel about putting burdens on our co-workers….we’re all just a number at our jobs!! They’ll replace us as soon as we’re gone. I don’t feel one ounce of guilt taking off work because I have earned it!! TAKE THE TIME OFF YOU HAVE EARNED AND DON’T FEEL GUILTY!!!

Well I do feel your pain, and I also know where your coming from. We have 5 employees and 2 of those are Supervisors. They both have 1.5 weeks each of vacation time and they can't take it due to being busy. I still have vacation time as well but I'm in the same boat, due to being the only employee with a Class A CDL and I have to haul equipment from job to job

Sat 2 hrs in the drizzle this evening seen a lone doe and a basket racked 8 point running g some does around in the beans. They weren't amused. Hit the grunt and he came in to 40 yards but hit my wind and that was it. Game over he took off and blowed the does out to.
