Last night was my first hunt up a tree in a saddle ! There is definitely a learning curve between the telephone pole in my yard vs. applying it to a hunting situation if you don’t have trees prepped. After this season I will be looking at all of my historical data and prepping 20+ trees at private spots. I also demonstrated the new go-to method of wind checking and I think that may take the industry by storm ! Might have to start offering it at Midwest Food Plots! I have a 35 minute drive to work and I listen to the traffic report just in case. I just heard my calling to start hunting. I heard 1st car-deer accident report. When I hear that report on the drive to work I know it's time to hit the woods.

Just got my truck packed. Headed up to my buddy's house to consolidate and then tomorrow night, midnight, we head out to elk/deer camp. Plenty of tags in camp......now if the animals will cooperate!!

Well, my parts came in Saturday for my crossbow. The wife's uncle dropped it off yesterday about 11am at Buck's & Jake's, and they had it done yesterday evening. Unfortunately, it'll have to sit there until I get off work Friday due to the lack of funds in the ol banking account. I reckon it won't matter unless the projected forecast changes between now and then, and I'm pretty certain it will lol

I pulled a couple camera cards today and just this week had 3 shooters show up. One is an absolute brute of an 8 pointer, very heavy mass and really white antlers. This weekend should really start to kick things off.

I'm heading after work Friday or go down early Saturday before light and hunt four days in a row. It will be the new box stand if raining or new ladder stand if not. Right now it's forecasted for rain Saturday morning and cloudy afternoon. Rain all day Sunday. When I leave all depends on Saturday morning weather.

I've had permission to hunt the farm directly behind my home for almost 30 years. I took my largest archery buck back there the first week of October 2013, and immediately someone else got permission to hunt there just in time for firearms season. Next thing you know, there were a few hunting it and I got tired of walking up on people in ladder stands, so I voluntarily quit going back there.
This evening, I was reminiscing about that hunt, and decided to check things out back there -- after all, they only gun hunt back there. The place was timbered in 2018 and is still horrible. I didn't recognize the property. Anyway, I circled around and checked out a site where they'd placed a ladder stand years ago, and it was still there today and thankfully unoccupied.
I visited the tree I shot that buck from, and found lots of acorns and a heavy fence crossing. I got excited and thought that perhaps it was time to ease my way back into hunting there sometimes after all these years.
As I'm walking towards home, I hear a couple of whistles, which I was positive were human. I circled around, then stood stationary and slowly scanned my surroundings until I found a ladder stand's legs. Following them upwards, I saw a teenaged hunter. He told me that I'd walked by his father earlier. I asked by name if his dad was the guy who gotten permission in 2013, and he said no. So who knows who all is back there now? I apologized for disrupting their hunt, gave him my name, and headed off.

Funny how sometimes I can’t remember what was just said but ask me about any buck on the wall and I’ll remember what color socks I had on 😁.

I'm tempted to get a few hunts in back there anyway. I was hunting there before that kid was even born. Lol!

Don’t want to look back and wish you had. Even if you don’t see a single thing and that’s OK I’m sure you’ve wasted enough time in a tree doing that exact thing anyway.

Took the atv and 3 ladder stands I acquired over to the hunt properity today. I can not drag a deer any more so the atv is a must. Plan on takeing the camper tomarrow. The other half said she felt well enough and told me to go so I did. Checked a couple blinds and found 5 rubs and a scrape so I am really itching to get in the woods
