Just got setup. Pretty windy but the rain just quit. See what happens. All standing corn around me. No cameras on this farm.

Back in a stand for the evening hunt. Hunting inside edge of standing cornfield. My stand is in a huge white oak. I’m totally invisible and there are tons of acorns on the ground around it and a scrape under it.

Only thing moving in Knox County is the trees, this wind sure has picked up in the last hour or so.

My wife took our little nephew out one last time while I’m packing the truck and trailer. Very nice buck standing 30 yards in front of them and the nephew has already filled his buck tag…lol He is passing on doe’s hoping for one of the turkeys in the field.

My TactaCam Reveal cell camera showed a half dozen does and three bucks on my food plot. Best buck is a 2 1/2 year old eight pointer. Just a matter of time before a shooter or two shows up .

My first sit of the year I killed a doe and now the last 7 sits I have seen 1 small buck. Pulled all my camera cards and not a one shooter on any of the cards. I do not have a target buck yet. I know it is only going to get better closer to Holloween. I don't hunt my best spots until then anyway.

Trying to switch gears, still fishing! Good luck to you all this year. I'm planning my first hunt next weekend. My oldest son will have priority come firearms season. He hasn't let go that his little brother got a first deer before him! Blessed that my two sons want to hunt. Dilemma is getting them to cooperate and get along because this isn't easy for a guy who has been hunting alone for the last several years.

Beautiful morning. I'll be in the deer woods, but once more behind the squirrel gun. Still trying to thin a few more out, then move a treestand and a little scouting. Deer hunting starts Halloween weekend for me.

Beautiful morning. I'll be in the deer woods, but once more behind the squirrel gun. Still trying to thin a few more out, then move a treestand and a little scouting. Deer hunting starts Halloween weekend for me. I hunt mature bucks only, thus very little early season hunting prior to end Oct. , early hunts are limited to evenings and food sources only. Hunter's can really hurt their chance's for a mature buck by over hunting sets early season. Be out this afternoon checking couple stands, putting up a new set, checking newly seeded fields and getting my hunting gear ready. Over years I have learned to hunt less days, hunting only when time and conditions are right. May get out this week to get a doe for freezer, just depends on weather and work. Been on family vaca for week , so take a couple days to get caught up at work.

Went out after turkeys again yesterday evening and what do you know, they went around 50 yards behind me and I got up tried to follow them and cut them off and didn't get a good chance to do it, they got to the roost area before I did and I saw two turkey heads looking at me. They came up and crossed the creek where I thought they would, I just needed to be closer. But bucky walked by me snorting and not too happy I was next to his rub he must have been coming to deal with. I think it was the same 6 pt I saw that morning.

I too have made this mistake in my early years thinking I had to hunt any day I could. I do hunt early in oct trying to get a few does and then hunt for a good buck later on. I don't hunt my good spots until late october and then the weather has to be right as well. In deer hunting less is more. I have killed my best bucks the first sit in a particular stand. Hunt the right place and right time of year with the right weather and you will up your odds. Guaranteed.

Seen no deer on the drive down. But once we got here seen 5 deer and 2 flocks of Turks so far. I'd pay money for this weather when the good times start. Just awesome here, 45deg, 2-3mph breeze.

I probably won’t be back in the woods till after Nov 6th. Leaving this Thursday for my sons Coues Whitetail hunt in Arizona, my fields are still loaded with corn and was hoping to be here when they are being cut but I doubt that’ll happen. And if I did kill a deer I wouldn’t have time to let it hang (I put em in coolers with ice for now) and process. Oh well. When I do come back I will be slaying them.
