Still haven't found anyone, but haven't really looked either. And the squirrel is a few miles away in the freezer at home. At least in there it can keep for a long time.

Is that an Ithaca model 72 saddle rifle?

Is that an Ithaca model 72 saddle rifle? No it's a Winchester Model 9422. Actually is my Dad's gun but I like it better than my own .22 because it's light, fits my hands and shoulders nicely, and shoots a whole lot straighter than mine does. When handling this gun I can see why Winchester guns are/were very popular.

Wish my eyes were still good enough to use open sights. I had to scope my old BL-22 several years ago. Now everything wears a scope.

Elkins Taxidermy in Hudson Lake, IN has done squirrels in the past. I havent visited in awhile to know what's going on nowadays, but I can vouch for some incredible work he does.

I've only been there once before and that was 8 years ago for a high fence ram.

Got the call around noon while squirrel hunting. So just went and picked her up! Looks a little wonky, but once you realize she was like that to begin with you start ignoring it. Gonna add some nut debris and maybe some more leaves to the base. Will put photos up once I can get them to upload.

I have known Dale for many years, been a day or three since I have been to his shop but I know he still doing taxi and butchering. When I first started to hang out in his shop it was his basement and I would help my brother in law skin coons. Last time his butchering ops was a well oiled machine. His taxi shop had great looking mounts. Good people.

What was so special about this squirrel? Some of the coloring around the mouth and the forepaws. Mostly from eating walnuts, etc, but also there seems to be a genetic variance in the grey squirrels at this property that gives most of them crimson bellies. Plus she was just, well, a bit wonky. We think she injured her tail long ago, it is shorter than it should be and has a rounded end.
