Rock on small game hunters!
I was impressed with Luke today. I let him hunt on his own, and he is doing really good. He listens and stays put as instructed. He doesnt get bored or want to move or leave early. I feel he has confidence now that when I say to watch this area, or face that way, etc he knows it's for good reason. I've given him prime times and locations, and set him up for success. He is showing great patience, discipline, and skills. I am very proud of his progress and accomplishments. I think we have the makings for a well rounded outdoor enthusiast now who can appreciate and share in our passion!

The weather isnt helping our cause this morning. Drizzle, and now turned to ice pellets. Everything is soaked, us, guns, scopes, and now the breeze is starting in. I took one skurry with a super long shot so far. On a funny note, I had one skurry at 5 feet on the ground, looking me in the eye, but I couldnt move. When I did, it jumped about 10 feet up and vanished in thin air. Lol
So far, Luke has been blanked.

I took the wrong weapon today as I was hoping for a mixed bag. No rabbits but saw a handful of squirrels. However, I couldn't get within improved cylinder range before they took off. Then the cold rain started and the squirrel sightings stopped. I plan to go back to the same spot tomorrow with the .22.

Precip turned to all snow now. Still coming down good, and everything covered by the time we got home. Many salt trucks on the roads.
I poured the water out of the guns and scopes. What a danged mess, I hate that! Drying out now and an oily wipe down later.
Gonna try somewhere again in the morning if the weather cooperates.

Saying snow to end in a few hours, but the radar looks like quite awhile longer. We got a good 2 inches now. Surprised, but the roads are slush covered and treacherous if you get out of the groove.
Gonna see how the morning looks. If not iced up, we will venture out. Might try public land so we can walk a ways out to some distant woodlots, and maybe see if we can bump a bunny.

I'd go back to where you were on Sunday. There's snow on the ground here so any squirrel hunting down this way should be easy.

They have guests over and plans, and asked that we hold off. A little nippy with the wind this morning. We may do more driving than hunting. Gonna go to a couple way back spots and see if we see any action. Then go from there. All these early mornings are getting to us now. Lol

Breeze died off now. We walked a ways back and got set up. Then... a big snow band hit. We are covered again, and guns and scopes are trashed. Jeez. Come on now!

Action is fast and furious! I missed a head shot at about 5ft literally. Then missed 2 more. Luke seen 2 but no shots. Snow quit so much more enjoyable.

In addition to taking my gun and bipod, the kid also snatched my seat. I bought it a few years ago for Turkey hunting. It is very low profile and 200% comfortable, even for this tired old back. It kills me to sit up against a tree, but I've been doing it. We have looked for another, but none in our area. So, I got a free month of Amazon Prime, and found what I wanted. This week I got a new chair, and have a tripod rest coming today. The odds will be a little better this weekend in the skurry woods. 😇
