For a lot of years I looked at this site and never participated. Even so, you read enough of someone and you feel like you know them, and they would be a good friend. I never met Dave. But he sure seems like a good guy from what I saw. God be with him and his family. Glad you joined! Your input is valued and I look forward to your posts. I'm in NE LaPorte county, and frequent Marshal and Starke regularly. One of these days I'll look you up and maybe we can say hey for a few minutes. Jay Talk him into fishing, there is some good ice fishing on his "pond". I stocked some fish in it a few years ago.

In hope's someone has his phone, I left a text message explaining who I was and of the concern and condolences from this bunch. I asked for any info they could provide, and permission to post it if available. I sincerely regret I wont be able to make the viewing or funeral. You will regret not going…. Hopefully someone from site goes.

Hopefully someone from site goes. Unfortunately my schedule will not allow it. I am at peace with my decision, and undoubtedly know that Dave understands. He is probably already mad at me for the flood of emotions I have expressed. He will just have to give me an ear full when we fish together again in heaven.

I hope you’re right….. Been down that road before I do it differently if I had a second chance.

I had a nice conversation with one of Dave's brothers. Sounds every bit as nice and heartfelt as Dave himself. He made me feel very welcome and appreciated the contact.
I asked permission to post any info. The autopsy results are not known yet, but he presumed a heart attack. He was at work on Monday. I will pass on any further as I get it.
I asked if he mind if I gave him the link to this thread, so he could see the compassion shared for our fallen brother. He thought that would be great. He knew Dave had a lot of friends, and was touched by the outpouring of sympathy from Dave's sudden passing.
We had a very nice, yet emotional conversation. I expressed my personal sympathy and the void this has left in my own heart. We talked how Dave would not have wanted a service or any big deal made, but he felt he owed it to their friends and especially family to have closure and say their goodbyes. I expressed my regret for not being able to make it, and he assured me it was ok, and Dave would fully understand, as I posted previously. We will keep in contact throughout this and the future to keep Dave's memories alive.
He did get in touch with Steve, Dave's friend he goes to Canada with. He will be at the ceremony.
Please keep Dave's family and friends in your heart, thoughts, and prayers in this rough time in their lives. Thanks to Dave's brother Doug for the information and willingness to communicate so we can have our own closure.
Thank you, Jay

I am not 1 for funerals. They are interesting ritual that I only attend for the surviving family. Not for me or the recently deceased. .
I have my moments when I say my goodbye. Those are for me and God. No regrets ever.
When I go...Roll me into a sink hole and let the critters do their thing. Really wish that was an option.

I was just doing some digging of the Hartman name and there is a good chance I'm distant related. His Father Arnold Hartman is either a brother (I think a brother) or cousin of Jim Hartman that I'm related to on my mom's side of the family.
