Long story short. I have a .270 remington 760 I inherited from my dad that inherited it from my grandpa. Those that don't know, pump action rifle magazine fed. I hunt 99% public land. Is it possible to rebarrel/rechamber it to a straightwall like 350 legend???

No. The .350 has a base diameter of .390” The .270 has a base diameter of .478”
Better idea….358 Hoosier. Its base diameter matches the .270 Either have it rebarreled or have a company reline/re - rifle the existing barrel Either way the Hoosier is the simplest way out.

Good luck finding the short 358 ammunition for public land use.

Good luck finding the short 358 ammunition for public land use. Easy peasy to make it. I made a lot of .358 Hoosier brass for a local gun shop prior to 2017.

Yeah back then folks couldn’t get them fast enough ….once HPR came legal and the 350 legend came into market the need for has gone way down. Would the 358 wildcat be good in a tube feed gun?

Woodmaster and his buddy both used .350 Legends in their Alberta bear hunts. The furthest a bear went after being shot was 20 yards. .
Thinking about getting a .350 upper for my AR.

The 350 legend is much like a .357 maximum in velocity and energy. I know first hand knowledge the killing power of a .357 max….. I would choose de it over a .44 mag any day and yes I’ve got plenty of experience with a .44 mag as well.

Probably the easiest way to rechamber would be to find a 35 Rem take off barrel. Trim your brass for hunting and just use normal brass for private and practice. Lee sells the .358 Hoosier FCD as a custom.
I thought those rifles used a box mag. Hard to Imagine a 270 win using a tube.
The 360 Hammer or the 400 Hammer may be a choice. JES at 35caliber.com can rebore it, not sure about the chamber. Guys on Marlinowners board are very happy with his work.

There are still a few flat-point and round-nose .358 bullets that could be used, but a 760 is fed by a box mag anyway.

I don't hunt public land. Do they have cartridge case length requirements? Otherwise, what in the heck is wrong with .270? It's pretty close to the ideal deer cartridge in my opinion.

Indiana public land deer hunting has cartridge restrictions.

I thought I read tube fed in original OP myself. The 760 is in fact a bdm style magazine fed gun.

FWIW, I would keep your family heirloom as is and purchase a new/used .350 legend rifle.
I've seen new bolt action rifles from Savage as cheap as $400.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

After watching a youtube video on the 760 I think you could just swap barrels like on a shotgun. Maybe have to change the bolt too as 35 rim is .018" in diameter smaller than the 270. Check head space also. If you can swap that way with a barrel change you would still have the 270 it was originally. It might take a while to find one but that would be a great way to go. see; youtu.be/l92x4--NWx0

I already have a .350 savage. It's just something I've wanted to do. I'll be the last to hunt with it. When I'm gone it'll be gone. Kids don't hunt and no sentimental value to them. Never got to actually hunt with my grandpa. Took a couple doe with it when i hunted private land. Seems all but an impossible task though. If i cant, i have private i cam hunt so i may just let it be. I've found a couple .223 760's. None less than $2000. It also be neat to have a one of one.
