And to think. He wasn’t even sure he wanted to hunt tonight. I kinda slightly “encouraged” him to.

Here's my bird. Just couldn't shoot him because it was past legal time. Didn't have any good action all day until 7:30 tonight.

7 PM Gobbler 7 PM Gobbler I got the grass cut that really needed it by 6. I Changed clothes and headed out into the woods. I'd walk a bit, call, listen, repeat. Eventually, I got a gobble back, but from out in the neighbor's field again. I thought maybe they'd cross over to my place to roost for the night, so I continued toward the corner of the property closest to where the turkeys were. Every time I called, he'd double-gobble back. He was coming gradually closer, and eventually I could tell that he was on my side of the road. I set up below the crest of a hill, knowing if I peeked over he'd see me. After several minutes, and several increasingly close gobbles, I spotted a hen come over the hill toward me at an angle. A couple seconds later, he topped the hill behind her at full strut, 40 yards away. I fired as soon as I got the bead on his head. I don't know if the hen came to my calling or if she was just passing by to roost. Either way, she brought him right to me. I'm pretty sure this is my first opening day bird, and definitely the latest in the evening I've killed one.

Saw the 2 gobblers I saw late last night. Came just out of range. 6 Jakes ran them off.

Set up on the three that were gobbling yesterday. Not near as vocal today but they were all there. Watched them fly down into the neighbors field where they still are. Don’t see them coming back this way anytime soon.

Just had a coyote on my camera. I’m about 150 yds from it. I never did see him. Hope he just continued on out, must not have done too much spooking as I just saw a hen over there a few minutes ago.
