Camera's are fun and useful for inventorying wildlife, scouting, viewing etc. , but the new technology creates a unfair advantage during hunting season IMO. (They don't have to, just depends on how they are used.) I am sure it is a debate that will carry on and be discussed going forward. But as said above , I support banning during hunting season. If one is using for property surveillance , I would think think would be easy to distinguish between ,for a CO.

If it’s legal per regs then it’s just one person ethics vs another’s ethics.
Every hunting tool has its advantages….Fair or unfair!
BTW … if something is banned during hunting season then it not usable at all….. That why feeding wildlife isn’t banned.

I'm not a fan of the current trend in that area.

I am 100% behind banning cellular cameras use during hunting season. (Way to big of a advantage for hunter). I 100% agree with this. When you have technology sending you a picture in real time to you when you are not hunting that area, it is a real advanatge. I heard of an instance a guy was at his house and he got a cell cam pic of a buck from his camera in real time so he grabbed his rifle and was able to stalk out there and kill this deer. Not fair.

Mixed emotions on this.
I’ve pretty well been against regulations that ban something because it “might” be used to illegally kil something.
Bowhunters carrying their personal protection handgun for example. They had banned this (even though it’s a constitutional right) because a bowhunters “might” shoot a deer with it.
Once upon a time we had to put little padlocks on our compound bow strings or no chambered shells while in the deer woods during non/hunting hours. Why? Because someone “might” illegally shoot a deer.
Now it’s let’s ban cell trail cameras because someone “might” use them to kill something?
I have a cell camera running and it runs during the season. Does that mean I’ll try and slip up on a deer or turkey if it sends me a picture while I’m hunting? Nope.. I will hope it comes my way ..but that is it.
Some “might” try and slip up on it though. Does that fall under “ethics”?

IMO, it does. Some will agree, some won't and that's fine, but as I previously posted...

WoodyWilliams IMO, it does. Some will agree, some won't and that's fine, but as I previously posted... Who is it a “unfair advantage” to? That sounds like a personal opinion to me…. Or an anti- Hunting statement.

As I've said several times over the years... Using cellular game cameras during the hunting season undermines the principles of fair chase. Are we hunting deer or are we running 24/7 surveillance so as to provide an unfair advantage as to what deer are on the properties we have access to and where they tend to travel/bed/eat? IMO, it's not hunting... BTW, I think using them for turkey hunting is basically the same thing. Surveillance, not hunting. Some also believe shooting game at long range isn’t hunting also… The question is when is it long range I personally don’t know that answer when I hunted WY a lot 300 yards was a chip shot that may even be considered average I knocked a lope right off his feet at 387 yards but I spent tons of time behind that rifle at 400 yards so that I could So was that long range to me yes it is but is the line 500 800 1000 idk when does it becomes shooting over hunting

Just about everything on this forum is a personal opinion and you can play the anti-hunting statement card all you want, but I'm not going to dignify it with a response.

You still didn’t answer the question of who it’s unfair to…. Unfair to other hunters or maybe the game? You taking the question wrong I believe….

Some statements have data to back it up.. so everything is not always a opinion
About every hunting tool used has an advantage to something or someone and all hunting tools are available to everyone to use!
Ethics seems to be the key factor here IMO
Enjoy the rest of your day…..

What is the difference between numerous cell cams set up at strategic locations and just using a drone? Other than drones are, I believe, illegal for hunting.

IMO, both violate the spirit of fair chase and while cellular cameras are legal and drones aren't, I think both shouldn't be allowed for use during the hunting seasons.

Be very careful with the “anti-hunting” statements. There are no anti-hunters here.

IMO, there isn't a huge difference other than drones being deemed illegal for hunting use. Drones are mobile where cell cameras aren’t. IOW - the drone can spot a deer and follow along with it So that the operator can know exactly where the deer is at all times, where it is bedded, when it gets back up, where it feeds , etc. Cell cameras only catch where the deer is at on a given minute…no matter how many cameras you have.

Any type of a camera has advantages over someone not using a camera Drone would be almost impossible to use when leaves are on unless you’re talking open field hunting or some of heat seeking device on the drone.

The big difference for me would be I probably could set a trail cam up but flying a drone ain’t happening And you fly a drone over me in a tree stand it’s coming back wounded that I promise you I’ve got a black helicopter issue But on a serious note what’s next sitting in your lazy boy shooting a deer remotely idk to me watching deer plotting the daily route they take placing my stand getting in and out with the wind is hunting not looking at screen or having a phone tell me go hunt a 10 point is about to come your way
