No idea the casing is stamped 43. The pouch is leather.

Looks like .30 carbine ammo. LC 43 is Lake City Arsenal for the mfg, 1943 for the date of mfg.

My guess it is for the 30-40 Krag. The 03 Springfield took stripper clips. The Grarand took 8 round clips.
I have one of these boxes in a repro for 45-70. I think they used them for the Krag too. They could not get the Krag's magazine to work with stripper clips very well and wanted a more powerful round so they copied the Mauser and went with the 30-03. I think when the heat treat problems were fixed in the original 03s they renamed it to the 30-06.

We found 1904 stamped in the leather along with an M.E. stamped as well. Pretty cool to just happen upon one in real life. Amazing the leather is still pliable.
